Happy Valentines Day and an Ode to Bones

Happy Valentines Day Flist! <3

bones_ga asked us our top 5 Bones Moments and well we all know I'm much too verbose for just 5 of them so this is my ode to Bones and my favourite B&B moments through all seven seasons so far.

Our show does its fair share of EPIC moments but it doesn't skimp on the tiny little things and I really like both so

Season 1.

There are a lot of awesome moments in Season 1. There's the rescue in Two Bodies in the Lab (which cemented my love for the show and B/B bc it reminded so much of a similar scene in Silk Stalkings way back when), there's the "I know who you are," moment in The Woman in Limbo, Booth showing up on only Brennan's request in The Skull in the Desert, Booth's tender fingers tilting Brennan's head so gently to look at her bruise in The Man in the Morgue but my favourite Season 1 moment comes from The Superhero in the Alley - Booth & Brennan have been pretty adversarial up to this point, tension between them was high and volatile. So when Booth automatically turns on the charm to try and sweet talk Brennan into giving his fresh body precedence over her old bones well I expected a whole lecture on the importance of her work. Instead? Brennan grins at him and says "Don't use your charm smile on me," in such a smug "I recognized what he was doing, go me! and Okay that is kind of a charming smile but I'm not falling for it!" sort of way. And that ladies and gents? That's when it really started! At least for me. It's totally that "Barely even friends, then somebody bends unexpectedly" moment if you'll forgive me the Celine Dion ref here ;)

Season 2.

Season 2 has some of my favourite eps of Bones ever! The Woman in the Sand with that dress and the Roxy accent! Aliens In A Spaceship and Booth's desperation to find Brennan, her faith in Booth. The Headless Witch in the Woods was creepy good fun! The Bones team were on FIRE in the middle of the season! Oh and can't forget Killer in the Concrete and Poco! But you guessed where I was going with this the moment I started talking abotu Season 2 - Judas on a Pole and that last scene "Maybe not everyone gets to be in a family," Brennan says her eyes full of too many years worth of sadness and disappointment made fresh again. And Booth proves to us he knows her, he knows what she needs to hear. "Bones, hey, there's more than one kind of family." Boreanaz delivers the line with such intensity here, Booth lends her the strength of his beliefs in that moment and Duchovny helps them hit it out of the park with the fingers under her chin calling to mind all the Mulder & Scully chemistry and emotions one could ask for without losing that this is Booth and Brennan.

Season 3

Season 3 gives us our first BB kiss! It gives us Booth flinging himself on top of Brennan for fear of a bomb and Brennan's eyeroll at him that never fails to make me LOL! B&B get to play with a bebeh and it was totally adorbs (and I say this as someone who had to be convinced by show that the baby storyline we have now wouldn't ruin things!) We get Booth and Brennan as Clark Ketnt and Wonder Woman on a really bad date I mean how can I not love a season that gives me that?

The Intern in the Incinerator was not my favourite ep on first viewing or even second or third but I think we get a really defining B&B moment in it. "Are you going to betray me?" Brennan asks and her guard is down here, she's tipsy and emotional and perhaps more honest than she would be otherwise but maybe a bit braver too to come right out and ask him. Betrayal is probably one of Brennan's top fears, she expects it almost and so she clings to the things that can't betray her - the truth, logic, science, they're constants but Booth has been showing her that people can be trusted too, not everyone leaves. I like that he doesn't rush to answer her in the scene, doesn't fall all over himself assuring her. He just says "No." matter of fact. No he won't betray her, no he never intends to. Which is probably why I can't forgive the writers for not giving me more payoff in PITH when it seems like he's made such a huge betrayal of her trust thanks to Sweets.

I think this is another one of those defining moments in the B&B relationship. She believes him here, more than she's let herself believe anyone in a long time. We see her open up a lot more after this. We see her believing that he won't leave when she pushes him in The Verdict in the Story, he's her partner she knows he'll back her up she takes the security of that and lets herself be brave, risk her heart (and her career and her life) for her dad again because Booth made her believe that some people are worth it. I'm not discounting Angela, or Zack or even Hodgins have made an impact on her before and to this point as well but Booth is a major force here.

Season 4

I love almost all of Season 4, there are very few eps that I'll skip on a rewatch. I love The Finger in the Nest with Ripley's funeral and Booth's fear of dogs, The Passenger in the Oven with Brennan's obliviousness to the hot librarian fantasy and their shared champage! I love Double Trouble in the Panhandle and how EXCITED they were to be circus folk, how much TRUST Brennan shows allowing Booth to fling knives at her! I LOVE Fire in the Ice - Everything happens eventually! Plus I love ice skating so Booth teaching Brennan to skate makes me really happy! I'm a sucker for the mistaken engaged couple in Cinderella in the Cardboard. Brennan pushing Booth to share something with Sweets about his childhood just takes my breath away everytime I watch Mayhem on A Cross. Her own story is so matter of fact and you can tell from his face how much he wishes he could go back in time and make sure that didn't happen to her but Booth's story - so few words and he says them for Brennan, and here we really see her reach for him, she covers his heart literally with her hand protecting it from the hurt she still sees there.

I really liked that we get more about Booth and his backstory and we really see where it's not just Booth reaching out to Brennan anymore but Brennan reaching back in Season 4. The first real place we get this is Booth's confession at the end of Con Man in the Meth lab. "My dad drank." 3 words and I suddenly realized Seeley Booth has a WHOLE HISTORY we don't know about! A childhood we have almost zero info on and maybe Brennan does too. I love that she doesn't brush it off or anthropologize it or 'poor Booth' him here, she just sits by him, supports him silently. Booth's guard comes down here, he lets her in and yes Brennan has a fortress around her emotions but Booth he has a pretty big wall too! It's decorated to distract you with charm smiles and bravado but there's a wall nonetheless. In Seasons 1-3 I was in love with Brennan, Season 4 is when I fell in love with Booth too.

Season 5

Season 5's another season where I love pretty much every episode! Harbingers in the Fountain BLEW ME AWAY and by blew me away I mean melted me into a very gooey puddle of shipper goop but that's not a grown up thing to say so I'll go with BLEW ME AWAY! The scene where Brennan's stabbed and she just curls into Booth, she TRUSTS HIM Y'all and that is HUGE for Temperance Freakin Brennan okay? Also? Booth is just so gentle and tender and "I got you baby" gahhhh! That's his girl, okay? Trufax! Night at the Bones Museum "What's Ours is Ours" Oh my goodness YES PLEASE! The Dwarf in the Dirt has the wonderful surprise of just how observant Brennan is when it comes to Booth the slew of habit changes she's shared with Sweets is shocking but the fact that she's noticed them! Well obviously she's paying close attention ;) The Proof in the Pudding shows us how far she's willing to go for Booth and we knew our girl had guts but she shows if off here. The Death of the Queen Bee is so intensely bittersweet and breaks my heart. The Predator in the Pool "You're the standard, Bones!" gah! "The Rocker in the Rinse Cycle" was just the nod to earlier happier times that we needed right then. "The Boy with the Answer" is so good and so hard to watch because you can see them fragmenting before our eyes and there's no way to stop it! But Season 5's top moment for me is Booth and Brennan on the hood of the rental car in The X in the File. They're just hanging out, enjoying the stars and Booth is teasing her and Brennan? TEASES BACK! They're COMFORTABLE with each other. They're HAPPY to be with each other and it's not a huge moment, it's not even one that really changes anything but it's them being Booth and Brennan and I really love that.

Season 6

Season 6 hurt to watch. I don't doubt they needed to go through that to make sure what they have now is real and solid, no one's leaving, no one's in too deep too soon, but it was painful to watch them struggling, painful to see them unable to find their balance. Even The Sin in the Sisterhood, Booth is telling Brennan there's only one but it doesn't feel right, he's not allowed to say things like that when there's Hannah damnit! Brennan's breakdown in The Doctor in the photo that hurts to watch! It's damn good storytelling, it's true - sometimes you don't listen to the universe until its too late but it still hurts. I won't even lie I found my hope again with Hannah refusing Booth's proposal and then Booth and Brennan at the bar - she's willing to do what it takes to help him not as a potential love interest, but because he's her partner, he's BOOTH. And she does what he needs then, quietly sits beside him and shores him up. And she KEEPS doing it! She proved she can make the big gestures with the Tommy Guns in Bikini in the Soup and in Killer in the Crosshairs "Broadsky bad. Booth good." The earth is round, the sun is warm, trufax! I'm glad they talked about how angry he was in Blackout in the Blizzard, I'm glad he admitted it and they addressed everything so openly and the bit with the dates in the candle? I loved it I don't even care!

My favourite Season 6 B&B moment though is when she tucks her hand in his arm at the end of the Hole in the Heart, because they were them again regardless of how ambiguous the scene was meant to be when it aired. It was the B&B that I'd wanted back, the ones who were comfortable with each other and who supported each other and who just understood how to be with each other. That's what I loved most.

Season 7

Season 7 so far has been such a pleasant surprise! I was worried about the baby storyline being too much, I didn't want to watch Booth out in the field without Brennan but they've done a very good job of balancing the separation I think. I love that we see B&B driving around together and even if it's not out to investigate someone it's BECAUSE THEY LIVE TOGETHER AND ARE DRIVING HOME OR TO WORK OR OH EM GEE WHAT FANDOM IS THIS BECAUSE B&B ARE HAPPY AND TOGETHER whut?!?!?

Sorry, excuse my inner twelve-year old.

Crack in the Code is my favourite ep so far, it was solid all around storywise, characterwise, everything! While I love that Brennan loves their house bc she can see the bones of it my favourite scene is B&B driving around talking about their Mighty Hut. It's just so THEM y'know? They drive around, he talks about normal things, she relates it to anthropology-stuff and then bam! They're having a moment like I've loved since the beginning and I'm looking forward to much more of it. :)
