New job

Yesterday I started my new job at the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation. The Cleveland version of the Seattle outfit that had a crazed gunman last week. Not only that, but the woman killed headed up the same department I'm working in here... And so, of course, my first day was caught up in the company meetings of how safety precautions have been taken and there's a counsellor specially brought in for those having emotional reactions.

I wasn't concerned about what happened in Seattle, since my mother-in-law was evacuated from her home Friday. At 6AM we got the phone call that the water was 2 inches deep in their living room. No power, and she needs twice-daily asthma treatments (no electricity for the nebulizer). Not only that, but her husband has secondary polio acting up. At 7:30, with water "halfway up the TV stand" we had to call the Painseville police to tell them about Mom & Dad, because they wouldn't call for help (shock/denial). Their first floor is ruined, but they're the lucky ones in their neighborhood.

Well, back to work.
