The Age of Experts

I had so much anxiety over the possibility of Travis going home this week on "So You Think You Can Dance?" that I dreamt about him last night. Yes, I really did, and I woke up wondering if I should have called from Wing Factory to vote for him. I apologize to everyone who likes Ivan, but I have wanted him to go home since the first week. Thanks, Chris. I can't take too much credit for this because I've been reading this article in The Economist about the current changes in media and building from that, but I appreciate it. You make a good point by talking about the Academy and those sexual assault cases in particular. If things continue to progress as such, I'm hopeful that there could be such a thing as true equal time: the presentation of "both sides" of a story. My co-worker Kacey alluded to this recently when he told me about watching film clips from Iraqi soldiers; we forget that there is another side so often because we want things to be black-and-white. Ambiguity, especially in cases that verge on moral, just doesn't seem to be something we handle well.

I hope this isn't the end of local radio stations and small papers because I really feel like those are akin to the rise of blogs--you know, the smaller venue where the lesser-known can be heard (or read). Our generation really is "The Daily Show" generation when it comes to news, but hey, at least we're paying attention. Strangely enough for someone our age, I think I'm a bit... nostalgic? for the more "noble" days of journalism, so I'm not really excited about the possibility of newspapers becoming obsolete (which I don't think they will), but I am pretty thrilled about the rise of blogs and podcasts. I guess journalism's journalism, no matter how you package it. (How... indescript!) But yes, the FCC... that's an interesting one I need to think more about. Thanks for the idea!

I won't even hold that whole Donyelle thing against you... just teasing. :)
