weekend recap

My weekend went really fast. But for some reason I feel like it's been a week since I've been here in the office. Usually it feels like I never left. Weird.

Friday night was low-key. Peter and I watched the Princess Bride and ate ice cream.

Saturday was cool. I went to the dentist and Mickey had a vet appointment to get some more of his shots. What an expensive little kitty. I stopped by the Bargain Barn and found a treasure trove of old Harvest Festival mugs. I bought 1975 - 1979 to give to my mom and dad as an anniversary present. Then Peter and I went home and I cleaned a bit. Mom and Dad swung by and picked me up and we went Apple Picking!!!!!!!!! Wow that was fun. It was such a beautiful day. It's finally fall. I love this season. After that, I got back home and the appraiser for the co-op to condo conversion came by and appraised our unit. Then I was antsy so I went out shopping. It was supposed to be shoe-shopping but instead I came home with a bunch of fall/halloween decorations. Then I made dinner (indian style chickpeas and potato, with chicken and long grain brown rice. yummy!). Then Sal came over and we watched Simpsons while Peter graded some of his english papers. It got late quickly so we went to bed because we had to get up at 5:30!!! the next morning.

Sunday, as advertised, we got up at 5:30. We barely made it out of the door on time to drive to Seton Hall to meet the bus to take us to New Brunswick/ Rutgers to hear the Dalai Lama speak! The bus ended up being late anyway so we had plenty of time. We bought some overpriced food at the stadium (there was no time to stop at mc donald's or dunkin' donuts) and waited for the Dalai Lama to arrive. There were musicians performing beforehand, including chanters and a throat-singer which was probably the coolest thing I've ever heard. The Dalai Lama arrived and spoke on the subject of "War, Peace, and Reconciliation." His attitude was very laid-back and he spoke to the crowd as if we were "old friends." His views on conflict and compassion were very engaging and gave me some things to think about. Throughout his talk, beautiful monarch butterflies kept flying past the crowd. It was so neat. I couldn't believe I forgot my camera.

On our way home, we stopped at Old Navy to shop, and picked up these for Peter:

(except the one we got him had better colors.. it was brown with orange and green stripes I think)

and then we stopped at Chevy's for dinner. I spent the evening playing a little neopets and Peter graded more papers, did homework, and wrote a letter of recommendation for a professor of his that is seeking his full professorship.

It was a good weekend. It went too fast, like usual. I love the fall.
