The past few days have been really great. Machada, who was my roommate in New York, came to Houma on Thursday afternoon. We just kind of picked up right where we left off in December, and that was great. Unfortunately, Houma is not the most interesting place, but we made the best of it. We actually went bowling on Friday night. It seems like forever since the last time I went bowling, so that was really fun. We rented the movie Saved and watched it Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night. It is a WONDERFUL movie with a great message. Saturday night Machada and I had dinner with Alaina, so we finally had the sushi we've been dying to have. We spent Easter in Lafayette with my dad's family, which was interesting (as usual). Yesterday (Monday) was fun. Machada and I spent the day in the French Quarter with Brittni, Crystal, and Beau. It was a little awkward when the friends that I've had for years were with the friend that I've had for a few months. I actually realized how different Machada is from my other friends. Other than for the awkward moments, yesterday was fun, and we did A LOT of shopping. I brought her to the airport this morning, and I'm sad that she's gone. It is hard when your best friend is hundreds of miles away, but we make it work. I think it says a lot that we haven't let distance keep us apart. Even though I really do NOT like talking on the phone, Machada is one of the only people I can talk to for hours. She's great, and I really miss her. The drive back home from the airport was kind of sad, but hopefully I"ll see her again this summer. On a different subject, I was accepted to Pepperdine University, so I'm very relieved that I have heard from one of the three schools I've applied to. I will be even more relieved once I have heard from the other two.
On a much more serious and depressing subject, please continue to pray for a miracle in the Terri Schiavo case. This is her twelth day without food or water. Hearing about Terri Schiavo just affirms what I believe - that there is no such thing as the right to die or the right to kill. We must also pray for an end to war, abortion, capital punishment, and assisted suicide. Life is precious.
"Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living. We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount."
