stupidity

One of the headline articles on my Yahoo home page today was about the renewed attempt to pass a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I could write a very long rant about that, but I'm too tired at the moment, and I doubt I'd have anything new to say. (My one comment: aren't amendments to the Constitution supposed to be about protecting rights, not restricting them?)

Anyway, I'm writing this entry because of this quote:

"Several religious leaders joined Allard to argue that the ban is needed to counteract an array of social ills, from rising divorce rates to out-of-wedlock births."
(The whole article is here.)

OK. I want someone to explain to me how on earth gay and lesbian couples are contributing to out-of-wedlock births. I'm sorry, but that blame falls soundly on hets. Unless I missed something in sex ed, that requires the joining of male and female parts, and most of the gay and lesbian folks I know aren't too keen on that.

(And yes, some gay and lesbian couples do choose to have kids, but since it requires a dedicated effort, their children are wanted. I hardly think that's a problem.)

Sometimes I just have to comment when I see such blatant stupidity. I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or rage--maybe I'll do all three.
