Greetings and Salutations

Dec 31, 2024 02:29

I never really had one of these front page entries before, but I figured I'd add one in case anyone was wondering what I'm all about.

Bio Stuffs
I go by Serena B. on the net in some places (behind this pen name is a long-ish story involving a cat and a game of bingo).

I grew up in a large sub-urban community just outside of Baltimore. I lived in the same house all my life until I moved out with my fiance (now my husband) when I was 29 into our own place---about a half mile from my parent's (and his, in the opposite direction). I have one brother (2 years younger than myself).

Politics--I consider myself fairly liberal.

Religion--of the Pagan variety. More specifically, Hellenic Polytheist.

Mental state--not always there. I have General Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. I've been on meds before, but am not on them at the moment. Depression is something I tend to talk about a lot, just because I deal with it almost on a daily basis.

Interests

In the past I was into anime, and although I still watch it now and then, I'm not obsessed the way I was ten years ago. I still read quite a bit of manga though.

A few years ago I started watching Korean dramas and Japanese dramas. I've seen quite a few (I may be a bit obsessed sometimes). If you want to talk about dramas, huzzah! I am always up for drama discussion.

I watch a lot of television. Probably too much.

I read. I read a lot. Mostly fantasy, but also historical fiction, and romance, and non-fiction. Some of my fave authors: Jane Austen, Jacqueline Carey, Judith Merkle Riley, Anne McCafferey, Rob Thurman. I've been a member of reddit's r/fantasy forum for about 5 years now and recently joined the moderator team.

I write. I've participated in NaNoWriMo every year since 2005. I also write outside of NaNo. I got my start in fanfiction, which I still dabble in now and then.

I used to do traditional art, but I haven't in years and I'm sadly out of practice. I'd like to get back into it though, I miss oil painting, and I miss sketching. Most of my art these days consists of photo-manipulations. I miss the traditional mediums.

I have a liking for photography. I took it for three years in high school, and I've always sort of stayed interested in it.

Recently I started to get back into reading comics. (Because apparently I didn't have enough geeky stuff in my life.) I don't read superhero stuff though, mainly sci-fi and fantasy stories. I'm thoroughly enjoying Saga and East of West.
