According to the Korean committee for UNICEF, ‘Figure Queen’ Kim Yuna helped 5 young girls this Christmas. UNICEF said that Kim had always expressed an interest in helping young teenagers in need.
UNICEF recommended 5 students who were in underprivileged situations in Won-ju, Gangwon province and Ham-pyeong, Jeolla province.
Kim sent each student 10 million won (apprx. $8,707 USD), a total 50 million (apprx. $43,500 USD) in total, to the 5 recommended students on Dec. 24th and 27th.
Since Kim is currently training in LA, the employees of Kim’s management company,
All That Sports personally visited the students and gave them presents, once of them being Yuna teddy bears.
“I’m sorry that I can’t go and meet them in person because I’m currently training abroad. I’m happy that I had the opportunity to help, even if it isn’t much. Even though I am far away I will always be rooting for the girls,” said Kim.
“A little love can bring great happiness and hope to children in need, or in difficult circumstances,” added Kim.
Kim donated 100 million won(apprx. $87,000 USD) to the children in Haiti earthquake in January before she was named a UNICEF international goodwill ambassador.
After being named a goodwill ambassador, Kim participated in a UNICEF video, urging people to help the children in Haiti.
Kim also donated 10 thousand USD, the prize money she received from the Korean American Leadership Foundation’s ‘Proud Korean’ award, to UNICEF(
