I am hesitant to comment on the topic of Rumple/Belle adorableness…I think she definitely serves mostly as a part of his arc, as a means of his reparation. But she’s also her own character that they have given decent screen time to. Obviously they have changed each other (which is awesome, and more than I can say about Snow and Charming), he into a softer, more forgiving man (or at least made him aware that he can be that person), and she into a stronger, braver woman. Like I said, her place in his life serves to throw wrenches into his arc-I don’t see her dying, but it could even show just how human he’s let himself become. We’ve never seen him, for example, fretting over an injured loved one (maybe Milha? I don’t remember) or trying to save someone. He’s always existed within his own world and power. So I think it will be interesting to see how he reacts and whether he changes, and if so, which way he changes.

MULAN = AWESOME.

ARCHIE = AWESOME.

Belle rescuing Archie = AWEEEEEEESOME.

Re: Belle regaining her memories, I think it’s most likely that Rumple will first try what he’s best at-power. I kind of anticipate him at the very least weirding her out by trying power first. Then he tries the other methods. I don’t think it would ever occur to him to show someone that he loves them. I mean, he really tries with Belle, but his way of doing that in the past has been to be a peacock version of powerful: let me just fluff up all my feathers to the passing males to show that I am the most badass one here and I take care of you and protect you and I love you. I think the chipped cup would be helpful! Maybe Regina will be convinced to use magic to help out too? Basically I think of it as a Rumple/Belle version of the episode where Marge got amnesia.

The guy doesn’t have to be someone from another world. I’d prefer if he wasn’t. From the trailer, it looks like he’s serving to push the other characters forward (I am getting tired of these characters), to force them to decide where they truly want to live. His presence brings them into the real world and threatens their, ahem, fairy tale existence. (Sorry for the pun.)

“He was speeding and not paying attention”? Did they show that?

First of all, he can’t possibly be Bastion because Bastion is presumably copyrighted and more difficult to get the rights to, and also less of a classic character than Peter Pan. (You need to read the book The Magicians by Lev Grossman, it kind of plays on the Peter Pan and Bastion themes and made me realize that little girl travelers go to other worlds to have adventures and learn how to grow up; little boys go to other worlds to learn how to become inhuman.)

I’ve long had this vague vision in my head of what Bae’s life is like. I’ve been under the assumption that he is friends with August (and possibly Neal). I keep picturing this like spy network he has, and August is part of it, and they’re people who hail from other worlds, and he uses them to keep tabs on what’s going on throughout the world, and August was his tool to keep tabs on Rumple. August has clearly gone back to Bae now. (Well, that’s my theory anyway.)

I don’t see why Neal should have anything to do with the guy.

I think it’s most likely that he’s just a random guy; why SHOULD he be a fairy tale character/guy from another world? There is no reason for him to be Bae, and it makes no sense that “Jefferson’s brother” should just appear out of nowhere. (I know you were kidding! August’s boyfriend was funny.) I guess you are making these theories based on the fact that no one has reason to go to Storybrooke because it’s not a real town? So why should a random guy be going that way anyway? It could be interesting if he was part of Bae’s secret spy network and was a completely new character, possibly a minor one, or even better, a character from a lesser-known fairy tale!

SO: that was a really good episode until the last thirty seconds or so. D:

I actually discovered that Hook works best when you think of him as a straight-up villain. He's the kind of villain who is Evil McTreacherouspants and hits on the heroine. His awfulness doesn't bother me when I am not assuming they're trying to make us like him. He has a mildly sympathetic/tragic past and that's it. He's not a sympathetic character, he's focused entirely on revenge and doesn't give a crap about anything else except possibly getting laid. It's the internet Hook fangirls who are wrong.

Hook is roughly as old as Rumple. He went to Neverland not long after Rumple lost Bae, and he came back at some point close to when the curse was cast. Obviously, while in Neverland he was spending his time trying to kill Peter Pan. Duh.

Jane's next episode is ON SUNDAY! But I doubt it will have room to develop Hook in between the Rumple/Belle heartbreak and the Whale flashbacks. IDK.

I think it's most likely that Rumple will try sending Emma out to track down his son, and only leave when she sends for him. So he can be working on fixing Belle and/or by her side as much as possible. Heck, he could take her out of town with him now, as long as she is actually willing to go with him.

I think I'd prefer him to be a normal guy, too. What's the point of having fairy tale characters in the real world if they never interact with the real world?

Speeding: Well, there were three people standing in the middle of the road and he ran right into one of them. It was a minor assumption/joke.

Yeah, re new guy I was just hurling out ideas to see if any made sense. The main reason most of the ideas are about him being a character of some kind or connected to a character we already know is that I can't possibly speculate about some random made-up real world guy. Maybe he's just some kind of tourist who saw it on a map and decided to spend the weekend there. SHRUG.

(Also, my theory is that August realized/thinks that everyone will be really pissed at him and is hiding out in someone's attic or fled to Vegas or something. Even though the real answer is probably some combination of 'actor unavailable/too many other plots'.)

A good post about Belle in this episode:
