Queen of Hearts

...also consider this the place to put thoughts and spec on the other episodes between Tallahasse and Queen of Hearts: Child of the Moon, and Into the Deep. This is all stuff I wrote a few days ago; currently my brain is all about Stargate, but if I don't post it now I never will! So.

I figure my whole problem with Hook is that I wanted to be interested in him, and then I just took massive offense at the way they did him wrong and started pushing him as a love interest for Emma. Part of me figures I should have known better, because this show is not the highest of quality, but, like you said, they've never gotten a character so wrong before. Maybe they just wanted to have a pirate.

I guess I don't really dislike the many new characters-even Hook has his uses and could be fixed as a character-I just wish they would spend some time on the big ensemble they already have, too.

This season is a LOT more plot-driven than last season. Last season was nearly episodic, with most main plots of each episode dedicated to exploring the town, showing their versions of the stories, and leaving tantalizing hints at the overarching mystery/plot, sometimes weaving episodic flashbacks together into a bigger arc. This season, so far, has been about chasing the magical macguffins to stop the villains, with some small bits of filling in gaps in the flashbacks and making villains act like villains. I don't mind it to some extent, but that's not what I signed up for-I want the puzzle piece flashbacks coupled with present-day character exploration. IDK, maybe I'll feel differently when I'm ready to dive back into the fandom again.

...IDK, I was just complaining about the ships I guess. I want to see hook-ups in canon, so long as they are not literal. (ie: I do not want to see Hook with anyone until he stops being a dick!) Also, I ship Archie/Regina because early in the season, before she was even considering redemption, he was the one who looked at her and saw past the evil queen and said to himself “That is an unhappy woman. I want to help her.” I find that a way more interesting foundation than most things people ship. (Although Archie would be cool and a sweetheart to any woman he became interested in.)

Haha, basically I was writing out thoughts as they came to me, and I guess Hook really, really annoys me. Oh, well. I hated August at first, too. Maybe Hook will do something awesome or have an awesome flashback or at least fail spectacularly in an amusing way and then I will like him.

Character reactions: I am just nodding along, I think. Aurora contained a surprising amount of awesome in the last couple of episodes. She reminds me... do you remember how in Dealing With Dragons, there was that princess who was Cimorene's friend and she wasn't really very good at the hard work/adventury thing like Cimorene was, but she was always willing to help with it? That's who Aurora reminds me of, although I don't recall that princess doing things quite as cool as Aurora did.

Also, Rumple is clearly the best character ever, and Belle is awesome for seeing it.

I think Cora is just power/control hungry; it fits a bit with the original Rumplestilzkin story, and with her pushing for upward mobility. But it's the sort of deal where she doesn't have any goals other than power of various kinds, and so she's never satisfied with it. That, or she's just the ultimate evil medival stage mom. Actually, having no goals other than power makes her possible the most dangerous villain right now-Regina sought power for specific reasons like escaping her mother and taking revenge on Snow, Rumple's two basic reasons for wanting power are to combat his cowardice and to protect/find his son (and at this point, a third reason could be because it's what he's always done.)

I have more thoughts, but I am sleepy, and will write them tomorrow. I just had this main one tonight:

I think the reason why I keep wanting to ship Hook/Cora is because Cora would obviously have complete control over him and it would be awesome. Like, he's such a dick and this control-crazy lady is just like, "So. You're going to be my lover now," and he's like, "Okay!" and he hasn't been great with the females so far, I think if he just completely caved to one it would be hilarious/interesting/awesome. (Possibly why I keep saying I want him to fall hard for Emma.)
