Really? Pretentious? My favorite movie ever is The Lion King. Pulp Fiction isn't even in my Top 10. Gasp.
I watch a lot of movies. Some of them, movies I could have sworn were amazing back in the day, do little for me today. Bicycle Thief is not one of those. It touches me, it makes me laugh, it makes me cry. Every time. There are few films that can maintain the same emotional impact after years and repeated viewings.
Just because one is used as one of the greatest examples of Italian Neorealism in classrooms across the world doesn't make my liking it a matter of appearances.
