Watching ze Watchmen...among other things
Long time no post, f-list.
I went to see Watchmen last Wednesday.
To be honest, I thought it was fine. Could have probably done without the extremely long sex scene though. It wasn't groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it. It's not going to sweep the Oscars but it wasn't the disappointment people were talking about either. Nowhere close imo.
I think it was faithful to the graphic novel in retaining most of its basic themes and ideas.
There's people moaning about the loss of the squid, the loss of the minor characters of New York, the altered burning-to-hacking by Rorschach, the good doctor's parting words...oh the list never ends.
My point is that the graphic novel is dense, so much in fact that it could never fit into the current Hollywood timelines. As a people, we've lost the ability to sit still for longer than 90 minutes. Don't blame it all on Snyder. Film is an entirely different medium.
Do I think this couldn't have been better? God, no. I would have had Laurie be more than eyecandy, for one. Have Ozymandias play it less like a villain - the man truly believes he is working for the greater good.
Anyway, fuck the rest -- Rorschach.
Soul and glue that held this piece together, both in the GN & movie. I was pleased with the way they handled him. LOlz, JEH, would have never thought of him as that character. He's like a little boy with a beard. I guess this means he's a good actor though.
Love the growly/raspy voice too. Kinda like I was the only one who liked Batman's LOLz.
Oh, and if you've yet to see it, do take that much-needed bathroom break during the extremely long sex scene. Trust me, you ain't missin much.

I really want to get back into drawing. I'm not that great, but if I had just kept going I would have improved muchly. My goal is to really get into it in the summer. Kinda like making up for lost time. Yo, Leia, we should totally have those sketch-offs!!
Speaking of goals, looking presentable in this swimsuit is my next one. I fell in love with it because it reminds me of Wonder Woman and it lacks the general white/red so I don't look like a walking American flag. It's perfect. If only it came in navy blue =(
And since one thing is leading to another, here's my dilemma:
I had planned to go to Europe this summer since I haven't seen my grandma and other family after my dad's passing. Problem is I just started working at the new place like last December (Novemeber, but it was 4 weeks training) and they need people for the summer -- they told me so when I first started working there. I'm sure I could get a week off for sure, but paying $1000+ just for transportation (not to mention other expenses) to go all the way there for just 1 week or two is such a waste. I have a lot of family there and they're spread all over. There's a lot of traveling involved and I'd never have enough time to stay with people/enjoy time. So I'm looking at 1 month + of vacation time here. I don't quite think I can ask for it ;__;
It sucks, I really wanted to go. My grandma (from my dad's side) is kinda sick too, she has ♥ probs and such, so I really want to go now and I kinda promised them last year I'd go this summer. God, just major fuckery and disappointment at the moment. And I have to break the news to them too. FAIL.
