Sakurada Rai cursed his luck. Why must he forget to bring his umbrella today when he knew that it was going to rain in the afternoon. A pout was forming on his face as he remembered that he has a band practice in two more hours. He sighed and sat on the stairs in front of the P.E building.
He put his shinai in front of him and sighed, still pondering to himself whether he should run through the rain or not. But if his brother knows about that … he will be doomed. Kai could be such an overprotective brother at a time. He sighed and hoped that the rain would stop soon so he could make it on time.
He was about to wait inside when someone approached him from afar. He could see that she was a student from his school. He looked at her with confusion when the girl smiled and pointed at her umbrella.
“Is this okay with you?” He asked,
“If you don’t mind sharing with me.” She answered in a small voice.
“Thank you. My name is Rai by the way.” Rai smiled at her while he got up and collected his bag and shinai.
“I know. I saw you playing at the school festival. I’m Viola.” She returned his smile.
“So you see that?” Rai grinned sheepishly. He was about to say something else when he saw something or someone behind the girl. He shuddered when he feel the familiar chillness, and decided to ignore it. He didn’t want to scare the sweet little girl after all.
He took a last glance at the figure that stayed still in the rain, before he took the girl’s hand and took the umbrella from her.
“Let me hold this, it will be easier for both of us.” He told her gently.
The figure didn’t even move a bit when they walked past her, but Rai could have swore that he was watching them. Rai knew that she wouldn’t do any harm to them … but he couldn’t help but worry that she would follow them. He sighed for awhile before he stopped in his track and took something out from his pocket.
It was a charm. It was an old pendant that he got from his grandmother when she realized that he can see what normal people cannot see. He smiled a bit before he put it on Viola’s neck. Viola just looked at him confusedly, asking for an explanation. But Rai only smiled in return. He leaned down, and put his lips near her ear before he whispered,
“I’ll tell you about it later.”
Viola nodded and followed him without saying anything. She had seen him a few times already at the school. And today, when she saw him sitting on the stairs by himself, she couldn’t help herself to approach him. She is a kind by heart, and she never hesitated to help the one in needs.
She could feel that the older boy squeezed her hand gently in reassurance. She looked at him, only to be greeted by his playful grin. She could tell that her face has became warmer when he did that to her.
“Do you mind if we go to my place first? I need to take my guitar and umbrella, after that I will take you home.”
“Yes. It’s okay with me.” She replied shyly.
“Thank you. Next time I will take you out for dinner okay?” He winked at her playfully, making the violet-haired girl blushed again.
Rai liked this girl immediately. Not because she is easy to tease, but he really appreciate her kindness toward him. She is cute, with her loose long hair that reach her waist, and not to mention that she has the sweetest smile of all.
When they reached his home, Rai asked her to wait for him while he changed into his casual clothes. Viola just nodded and sat quietly at the living room. She looked around, and found a picture of him and another boy that look exactly like Rai, except for the hair’s color.
“He is my twin brother; his name is Kai. He is going to a different school though.” Rai explained when he returned with two mugs of hot chocolate for both of them. Viola accepted it gratefully, with a smile forming on her lips when she took a sip of it.
“About before, I apologize if you are not comfortable with my action earlier. It’s just … someone is there, and I just want to make sure that she wouldn’t do anything to harm us. She always appears when it’s raining…”
“Rai-senpai, who is she anyway?” She asked, tilting her head a bit.
Rai smirked at that question.
“Do you believe in ghost, Viola?” He asked, and when the girl nodded, he continued his sentence, “There is one on the field earlier …”
“….!!!!!!!” Viola looked at him and without thinking she moved closer to Rai. She was never fond of that kind of thing. She always ended up sleeping with the lights on when someone told her ghost stories. She tucked one of Rai’s sleeves, and Rai couldn’t help but think how cute she was. He put one of his arms around her and pulled her closer.
“Don’t worry, she didn’t follow us, and I gave you that charm already, right? It will protect you from them.” He reassured her, but he could feel that she’s still afraid; he looked at her eyes, and kissed her forehead gently before he pulled her into a hug.
“Don’t worry; I will protect you from now on Viola.”
And that’s the beginning of their relationship.
