James Earl Jones (1931-September 9 2024)
“If I ever wanted to have something as my legacy in film,
Cry, the Beloved Country [1995] would be at the top of
the list"
He played Stephen Kumalo an Anglican priest in South
Africa in the great novel by Alan Paton. Here I will
post from a prayer by Pastor Kumalo at the end of the
story looking back as he keeps a vigil on
mount Emoyeni and he thinks of all the
events of his life and of how another man
might have learned only bitterness from them..
"why was it given to one man to have such
an awareness of God, while another might
have only pain without end?" And he thinks
of how his prayers have been answered, and yet
might not another "pray day and night without
ceasing" and receive no answer? "His mind
could contain it no longer.."
Returned now to the Eternal... live in unfading light.
on youtube we may see various scenes from the film....
