okay I have decided to totally spam you about this
the Macmillan cancer unit - who provide care for entire groups dealing with cancer and are too good for school, literally
are doing a call for knitted blanket squares
8"x8" in double knit
other than that anything's fair game, so if you want to use up that nasty ball of puke green you inherited go for it, if you want to do it in short row shaping, entrelac or intarsia - go for it
if your knitting isn't much better than garter stitch and comes out wonky - go for it, it can always be blocked later!
these blankets are going to cancer patients!
Now this charity is very close to my heart so if you can do something please do
and then forward it on to me and I will pass them on in bulk.
Alternatively if you just want to design a square pass it on to me and I will share it with everyone.
They have asked for 100 blankets, that's 4000 squares
we can do better than that can't we
something like 1 in 3 people are affected by cancer and if something simple like a knitted square that finishes a blanket makes even a day easier then it's worth it.
I am seriously considering arranging a deal with the local charity shops, of which there are three, to create boxes for the squares to be deposited.
I'm running around like a headless chicken arranging knitters, my poor dear aunties won't know what hit them, mwa hahaha
but that's it, that's all I want, knitted squares for a VERY good cause.
I will do the leg work, so all you have to do is knit
actually, I haz a second cunning plan for US knitters, leave this with me, Europe, you're not off the hook. Colour/pattern doesn't matter, just the weight, Double Knit, and the size 20cm by 20cm
