First up, just finished watching The Constant Gardner starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. Really excellent film, kept me interested it's the entire length (i hardly ever watch movies since most don't keep me interested/i figure out what happens within half an hour, >_>), I never realized what a wonderful actor Ralph Fiennes is. Well, duh, he plays old Voldie, so really I should have known, XD!
Anyway, Ralph plays the typical self-effacing English gentleman (Justin Quayle) who marries a . . . . . Tess Quayle is an political/human rights activist who loves her husband a great deal. It's one of the romances where there's the quiet one and an explosive one. Guess who's who!
Usually I'm not one for the romance aspect of a film, but this was done beautifully. It's not a grand romance, and not super angsty (it is later . . . . but that's later!) it just is. I like it because it's real. But really romance isn't the center of this film, just a wonderful addition.
The short of it is that Justin is member of the British High Commision in Kenya where his wife is murdered and he intends to find out why.
See this film. Rent it. Download it. Buy it. Just see it, I promise you it is excellent!
Now for The Front Runner by Patrcia Nell Warren. Written in the 1970's, one of the first gay fiction novels written. It was really, really good. The characters were interesting, the setting as well (something different for me!) It's about Coach Harlan Brown and hotshot Billy Sive, and how much you can take . . . and what you need to have to be able to make it if u have a dream and everyone's trying to bring u down.
The "everyone's trying to brings us down" but was a little irritating and every time it happened I wanted to throttle those IDIOTIC MEN who wont' let a gay man just RUN! Even if he is the best shot the U.S. has in the 10,000 meter race, to win a meddle . . . . and not just any meddle but a gold.
Damn, but that was a good book. If you've seen Brokeback Mountain, you'll have an idea about how it ends. This is so good, I wanna read it again, right now!
