So-o...my dad and I went to see 300 today...which is a simply awesome movie. I was even surprised that my dad liked it, too, considering it's comic booky format and unbelievable character creations (such as the minotaur and the guy with scythes for hands). It was one of the very rare movies he hasn't fallen asleep on...and I think the last movie he hasn't fallen asleep on was Seabiscuit. I about choked on my popcorn when I recognized an actor. I know this movie was made with no-names...which basically pissed off a lot of A-list action stars...but one face, and only one, did I recognize. It was the Spartan who narrated the story...in fact he was sent back to Sparta to tell the story. I was thinking through the movie how familiar he looked to me when it struck like a bolt of lightning three-quarters of the way through. It was the actor that played Faramir in LOTR: The Two Towers and Return of the King...as well as played that goofy friar in Van Helsing. That's the reason why I choked...to see an actor who played a goofy sidekick in Van Helsing as a rugged, buff warrior Spartan. When...did he...get...so...muscular?!? o_O
I also saw a preview for a movie I MUST see...I am desperately wanting to see this movie. And so would any fan of Shaun of the Dead. The two masterminds behind Shaun of the Dead zombie spoof are coming out with a cop action spoof...Hot Fuzz. It looks freaking hilarious. "Shaun" plays a supercop...has to be the best cop in England...and he gets shunted to a practically crimeless sleepy town because he was so good he made other cops look bad. Unfortunately, I haven't stumbled across a release date for this movie yet...but, my eyes will be peeled. I will see this when it comes out...and I know Kristin at least will be with me.
