Spit it out, damn it!!!

I don't get it. In fact, I don't get it at all. Perhaps I should explain the source of my befuddlement.
We were sitting in German this morning (Intro to German, Bitches!!!!) And, since the class is a small one, the teacher (der Leher) suggested that we do some vocabulary exercises. We would give our best effort at pronunciation, and he would correct our mistakes and give us the correct pronunciation. Sounds simple, no? It did to me too.
Apparently, a number of my classmates have yet to master the simple concept of reading a word from a page (some of them exhibited trouble even finding the damn page). After the page was located, the "reading" began. Somebody please tell me why it takes two and a half minutes to read a two syllable word from a page. These people hemm and haw as though, if they fail to pronounce the word PERFECTLY, the instructor will pounce upon them from behind the podium and rend them limb from limb. I swear, they stare at him through half-lidded eyes as though he were Hitler himself and they Juden caught hiding.
Seriously, I wanted to throw something. Just say the damn word and let's move on!! Maybe the teacher should start hitting them if they go over thirty seconds without saying anything besides "um" and "Oh Lawd". No sir, The good lord is not going to step down from on high and say the word for you. Besides, He already knows German. What the hell would He be doing in a Intro German class anyway?
