It's about time that I got back to blogging. After 4 months without a single update, it seems a bit sudden, but there are a couple reasons for this:
1. I have graduated and have free time again! Even 3 weeks after leaving Olin, it seems strange that I'm no longer a student (in the formal sense) and that I won't be going back to Needham in the fall. It's a bit of a lonely feeling, but the fact that I have time to follow my own pursuits! Now if only I had written down all the things I said I would do when I had free time...
2. I'm going to Japan again, for longer than I've ever been there before! I was accepted to the
JET program, so I will be an Assistant Language Teacher bringing English to the classrooms of the rural town of
Tsumagoi, Gunma. This starts early August and goes at least until July of next year. It's a bit of a departure from engineering, but I'm hoping that it will still be an educational experience. Cooperating with coworkers, communicating ideas, and organizing large groups of people are skills that can be applied just about anywhere.
3. Twitter/Facebook updates do not make for a compelling narrative of a person's thoughts and actions. I may have just lost a good deal of senior year by not posting anything about it. Memories tend to stick around better when they are well-documented. Also, writing things in here makes them stick better in my mind. So I'm going to continue to use this space as my personal diary.
So, here's to the latest reincarnation of this blog! Stay tuned in the next few days for more information about the JET program and what I know about life in Tsumagoi.
