My Halloween costume was awesome this year. I spent entirely too much time on it, but it came out great. Here's a picture:

October 2008 Hopefully most readers will know this, but for those who have less video game experience, this is Link from the Legend of Zelda series. The sword and shield are made from foam and duct tape, and I made the tunic from some green fabric from JoAnn's. I probably spent a good 10-15 hours putting this costume together over the last month- 5 hours sewing the tunic (most of those dealing with non-functional sewing machines), 3 hours getting the shield just right, and a good deal of time finding an adhesive that actually held the sword together (tacky glue didn't work, hot glue barely did).
Why did I go to all the trouble of making such an elaborate costume? First, I figured it could be reused at anime cons (one of these days I'll get to one) and for future Halloweens. Also, there was a sense of accomplishment in getting it done- moreso than most Olin projects I've worked on. Finally, it gives me an excuse to run around doing somersaults and yelling at the top of my lungs. :D
This weekend was supposed to be set aside for catching up after this. Then a career fair happened, but that's a story for another post.
