Summary: Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle have finally found happiness--together. The Yellow-Eyed Demon is dead and things are starting to feel normal for a change. That is, until a new evil threatens to erase everything they hold dear--their relationship, their families, and their very lives.

Flora was standing down the hall near Dean's room, speaking with her father. He was not happy about what she was going to do. "I understand why you want to do this, Flora; it's in your blood. I know how much want to avenge your mother's death."

"That's not the only reason, Father. I have to do this, not only because I am the Seventh Faerie, but also because we started this! Musgrave is only continuing it! We must defeat him or he will never leave our people alone!"

Niehart smiled, giving his daughter a hug. "I know you are right, my darling. I hope you can forgive an old man’s fears."

"I can, and I love you very much, Father."

"I love you too, Flora," Niehart responded, placing a kiss on her head. "I suppose you must go now. I will be meditating for you and I will give you my strength."

Flora smiled. "Thank you." Giving Niehart one last hug, the Seventh Faerie headed to the human's room. She would help him save two worlds.

Dean was lying on the bed when Flora returned. She looked over at Jo and Sam. "I sense a strong bond between you two and Dean. He will need to draw on your strength."

Sam nodded as he sat on one side of the bed, Jo on the other. "Just tell us what we need to do."

"Just hold his hands. Do not let go until this is over or it could lead us to failure."

Dean looked between them through half lidded eyes. "No pressure there, huh?" he asked, squeezing their hands.

"We've got him, always," Jo replied, and Sam nodded in agreement.

Flora nodded. "Good, then I will begin. Dean, you'll need to concentrate on the sound of my voice. You will not see me in your mind; you will only see Musgrave and what he has in store for you. Remember your safe haven and remember that Jo and Sam are sitting beside you."

"Let’s do this," Dean replied.

Dean closed his eyes as the faerie began to chant. Jo and Sam clutched his hands. Remember your safe haven and remember that Jo and Sam are sitting beside you.

When Dean opened his eyes, he was standing in front of his home in Lawrence. There were no other houses and no one for miles around. He turned when he heard a familiar voice behind him.

"Dean!"

"Mom?"

She smiled. It was a warm and inviting smile and for a moment he almost fell for it. Instead Dean remained where he was. "Come give your mom a hug. I've missed you, baby."

"I've missed you too, Mom, but I know that's not you. Musgrave, get your ass out here and fight like a man!"

An evil laugh filled the air and caused the sun in Dean's mind to hide among dark clouds. A moment later, Musgrave appeared. "I have to admit I was surprised you figured that out so quickly, Dean. Don't worry. I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve."

"No! You need to leave now, Musgrave, or so help me..."

"What? What do you plan on doing? Do you really think you can persuade me to give you the cure, Dean Winchester? Let me tell you, men mightier than you have challenged me and none have succeeded."

"You must really get off just hearing yourself talk," Dean replied, shaking his head.

Musgrave smirked as he lifted his hands, striking Dean's head with a beam of light. "You're one to talk!"

Dean grabbed his head and cried out, falling to his knees. The pain was overwhelming and he knew he had to fight it but something was telling him to just let it happen. That it would be all right if he was dead. He wasn't needed. No one needed him.

DEAN! Do not listen to that voice! Go to your safe haven! Go to Jo! To Sam! They will tell you that you are needed!

Dean blinked, recognizing the voice as Flora's. He took a deep breath and went to his safe haven. When he arrived he felt familiar fingers grasp his hands. "Jo..."

"I don't think so, you fucking bastard!" Dean exclaimed, canceling out Musgrave's spell.

The faerie growled in anger and disappeared. He would be back for another attack. Dean knew that. For now, he had to prepare himself since he knew what he was dealing with, just as his dad taught him.

It seemed like forever before Musgrave came back. Dean had been taking a walk through his house, coming up on Sam's room, when the faerie appeared. Musgrave beckoned Dean into the room, where a crib sat empty.

"I think you recognize this room," he said. "This is where it all began. I know because I followed him. I still do, for I am Azazel's back up plan."

Dean stared at Musgrave in stunned silence. Back up plan? Azazel had a fucking back up plan? Clenching his teeth, he said, "I'm listening."

"Your mother was a hunter, Dean, not your father. He only became one because he knew something wasn't right about her death. Azazel killed her because she could kill him and what better way to avoid that than to..."

Musgrave snapped his fingers and suddenly Sam was crying in the crib. Dean’s mom was on the ceiling and his dad was yelling for her. He grabbed Sam and handed him over to little Dean.

Again Musgrave snapped his fingers and the rest of the scene played out in horrifying slow motion. Dean had to watch as his mother burn to death on the ceiling of their family home. He couldn't move, couldn't speak.

Suddenly it was silent. There was no house, no fire, no Musgrave. Dean was breathing heavily and trying to wipe those images from his mind. It had been bad enough when he was little knowing his mom had burned in that fire, but to actually see it... smell it... it was the most horrible thing he'd ever been through.

"No, Dean," he whispered, squeezing his eyes shut. "Safe haven… safe haven..."

When he opened them Jo was standing there. She went over to him and kissed him on the lips. Dean's eyes widened in surprise, but he returned the kiss readily. "Dean, I've missed you!"

"Where have I been?" he asked between kisses.

"It doesn't matter because we're together and I'm going to make sure you never go away again!" Jo replied, hands snaking towards the zipper of his pants.

Dean was confused. He knew he was supposed to be doing something and even though he would love to have sex with Jo right now, he couldn't. "Jo, wait!" he said, pushing her gently away from him. "I can't do this. Not right now."

Jo frowned. "Why not, Dean? You think I'm going to be here only when you need me? I don't fucking think so! You are such a dick, you know that?"

He went to grab her arm but she moved too fast for him. "Jo, I..."

"Stay away from me, you bastard!"

Before he could say anything else she was gone. Dean knew something was very wrong because people didn't just disappear into thin air.

SAFE HAVEN!

"Musgrave, get your fat ass over here now!" Dean exclaimed. He was fucking pissed as hell at this faerie. Dean wasn't going down without a fight. It was one thing to mess with his head, but to use his mom and Jo the way he had-no way in hell.

"Why, Dean Winchester, I never knew you to have such a mouth on you. What would your dear old mother say about that?"

Dean glared at him. "That's enough of this shit. You want revenge on me that's fine but leave everyone else out of this. That is, unless you're too chicken to face me on my turf."

"What are you proposing, Dean?"

"We fight hand to hand in here, no weapons. The first one to be knocked out loses. And by lose I mean the winner can choose to do anything they want to the loser. For example you can let me die with your poison if you win, or you heal me if I do."

Musgrave thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement. "Very well, Dean Winchester, I accept your proposal." The room suddenly turned into an open field. "I thought that a change of scenery would be nice."

"Whatever floats your boat," Dean replied with a shrug. "Let’s get this over with."

A smirk appeared on Musgrave's face. "My pleasure."

The two circled one another for a few minutes before Dean, annoyed by neither of them moving, rushed Musgrave. The faerie moved to avoid a blow to the head, but staggered back when Dean's fist slammed into his shoulder instead.

Angry, Musgrave returned the gesture, but Dean was quick and all he felt was the brush of the faerie’s knuckles swish past him. Dean was then able to deliver a swift, roundhouse kick to Musgrave's stomach forcing him to clutch it in obvious pain.

"What's the matter?" Dean asked with a smirk. "My awesomeness takes your breath away?"

What Dean didn't realize was that Musgrave was faking it and before he could say another word, the faerie charged at him, knocking him to the ground. His hit head hit something hard, a rock maybe, and it caused everything to blur for a brief instant.

"You're not a very worthy opponent here, Dean," Musgrave said. His hands snaked around Dean’s throat and began to squeeze.

Dean tried to pry Musgrave's hands off him but he was getting weaker. He couldn't believe he was going to die in his own mind. Dean blinked when he noticed a flash of light out of the corner of his eye.

It was Flora, the Seventh Faerie. She wasn't there to fight Musgrave; she was there as a reminder to Dean that he had to fight because she knew he had it in him to defeat Musgrave. Dean knew it too--this was his mind so he controlled what was going on.

With all the strength he could muster, along with Sam and Jo’s, Dean took a deep breath and shoved Musgrave away from him. The faerie went flying across the field, landing on the ground with a thud. Dean stood and slowly walked over to him.

"You okay over there?" he asked.

"No! How is this even possible? You shouldn't be able to defeat me! The only way you can do that is if the..." Musgrave trailed off. "The Seventh Faerie. You know who she is!"

Dean shrugged. "Does it really matter? Why do you have a need to avenge someone who's dead and only caused pain and suffering? What did these faeries and humans ever do to you?"

"You act as if you are perfect, Dean Winchester," Musgrave said as he stood. "That could not be farther from the truth. Azazel was a wonderful man."

"Except that he wasn't a man, he was a fucking demon."

Musgrave glared at Dean. He was seething with anger at the tone Dean was using in regards to Azazel. Without thinking, Musgrave rushed at Dean, but this time he was ready. Dean caught the faerie and chucked him right over his shoulder.

When Dean turned around he was pleased to see that Musgrave was unconscious. "Oh, am I good or what?"

"You have done well, Dean," Flora said as she appeared.

He nodded. "What about Musgrave over there? What's going to happen to him?"

Flora closed her eyes and sent him away. "You needn't worry yourself about him. He can no longer hurt you or another human being again. You are cured, but there is one side effect that has not been avoided, I'm afraid."

Dean frowned. "What the hell does that even mean?"

"You have fallen into a coma."

*****

"He's what?" Bobby exclaimed. "Nobody around here mentioned that possibility!"

Flora nodded with frown. "I know we didn't and honestly..."

"You didn't think he would survive either way," Sam finished as he glanced over at his brother. He was quiet and still, two words he never would have associated with Dean.

"No, Musgrave's victims rarely survive. My mother didn't, but I did. I am sorry I did not share my fears with you, Sam. I hope you can forgive me."

Before either man could speak, Jo stood and walked over to Flora, giving the young faerie a hug. "There is nothing to forgive. We all had enough on our minds. Dean is still alive. We can all give him our strength and he can beat this."

"Thank you, Jo, and you are right. Dean will beat this!"

Ellen nodded in agreement. "We all know how strong Dean is, but what about Musgrave? Will he be able to come after him?"

"Musgrave has been stripped of all his powers. Without them he is no longer immortal and will become very weak. Dean has saved us all because Musgrave will never be able to hurt a living soul again. He will be sent to a place that is similar to your prisons."

*****

Almost four days later Jo was sitting with Dean in a hospital room. They hadn't wanted to move him but with Dean being in a coma they thought it best to get him to a hospital where they could deal with certain needs. She just wished he would wake up because the longer he stayed in that coma the lower the chances that he ever would. Jo stood up suddenly and began pacing the room, glancing every so often at Dean's unmoving form.

"Come on, Dean, what the hell? I can't believe you're gonna let a little faerie get the better of you! You're stronger than this, so wake up!"

Jo waited for any sort of movement, frowning when she saw none. She truly thought that if she yelled at him and pretty much ordered him to wake up, he would. Obviously that didn't work like she planned.

Wiping away the tears that had unconsciously fallen down her face, Jo sat in the chair and took Dean's hand in hers. "Okay so I've tried it the manly and now I'm going to try it the girlie way. Please, Dean, wake up. I miss you and want to see those gorgeous green eyes of yours. I love you so much; we all do. Please, please wake up, Dean!"

Jo dropped her head to the mattress and began to cry. All the sadness and frustration, even the anger with everything that had happened, poured out. Why did good people always get the short end of the stick? She thought of Mary and John Winchester, her father, and now Dean.

She was so lost in her grief that she didn't notice Dean's hand moving beneath her. She didn't notice anything until his other hand had reached around to her hair. "Jo..."

Jo's head snapped up at the quiet whisper. "Oh my God! Dean!" she exclaimed."

"Hey baby," he replied, reaching up to wipe away her tears. "Don't cry, I'm right here."

"Took you long enough."

Dean nodded. "I know and I'm sorry. Forgive me?"

"Of course I do, you're awake."

"I love you too, Jo," Dean said with a smile.

Dean took a deep breath as he rolled outside in a wheelchair. He grinned wildly when he saw the Impala there looking shiny and new. The orderly who had taken him out let out a low whistle. "Nice car!"

"I think so," Dean replied with a grin as he was wheeled up to it.

He gingerly stroked the passenger door as Sam and Jo chuckled from behind. "Would you like a minute alone with the car?" Sam asked.

"Yeah," Jo replied, pouting. "And you never treat me like that!"

The orderly laughed as he helped Dean to his feet. "I'll leave you alone to fight your battle."

"Thanks a lot!" Dean said, but he was laughing the whole time.

"Take care of yourself, Mr. Winchester."

"You too!"

Once the man was gone, Dean glared at Sam and Jo. "What the hell was that?"

"What?" they asked innocently.

Shaking his head, Jo helped Dean into the passenger seat then climbed in the back. He sighed contentedly as Sam drove away from the hospital. "So what happened? I haven't seen Flora since that night."

Sam explained to Dean what Flora said about Musgrave and how she became the Seventh Faerie. "She did mention that it was a possibility you might end up in a coma," he added. Sam still seemed to be a bit pissed about that, too.

Dean shrugged. "I think that was the least of my problems, Sammy," he said. "I could have died instead."

"There's that," Sam nodded in agreement.

"So who's hungry? I could go for a nice, juicy burger with chili cheese fries and a cold beer!" Dean exclaimed.

Jo grinned. "I'm up for that!"

"We should probably get back to Bobby's…and how can you eat that crap all the time, Dean?"

"You are absolutely no fun! Besides you have something called a cell phone call Bobby and Ellen and tell them to meet us somewhere. I've been eating nutrients from a tube and hospital food so I need something more filling... Pie! Yeah, I gotta get me some pie. Hop to it, Sammy!"

“Yeah, you win. “ Sam laughed in spite of himself as he called Bobby. He spoke up when the hunter answered. "Red Robin? We'll see you there in 20 minutes."

"That wasn't too hard, was it?" Dean asked as he reached for the radio. “Heat of the Moment” blared through the speakers. "Dude, Asia!" he said with a grin.
