Yuriko ~A Hamster Romance~
Chapter 2: Pinch is a Chance.
I opened my eyes and I was greeted by the bright sunshine that passed through our hotel windows. I rubbed my eyes and got up to find out that I was the latest in waking up.
“Oh, good morning, Yuriko-chan!” Peach-chan greeted cheerfully. She was already getting ready to leave for breakfast in the dining hall.
“Oh, Yuriko-chan! Good morning!” Mikado-chan came out of the bathroom all dressed up in a sundress.
“Good morning…” I rubbed my eyes again and I was still sitting on my bed.
“What time did you come back last night? You weren’t still here when we went to sleep. Some of the teachers were worried.” Peach-chan stated, sitting on her bed which was next to my bed.
“W-Well… I got back really late… like 1:00am…”
“Where were you? OH! RIGHT! Yamada-san! You were with him last night, right?” Mikado-chan eagerly exclaimed.
“Uhm…” I scratched my cheek.
“Yeah, you were able to confess to him, right? How did that go?” Peach-chan smiled.
“You see… I… ran away last night after confessing to him… so…”
“You never got to hear Yamada-san’s answer?!” Mikado-chan shouted this time, as if she was asking me surprisingly and reprimanding me at the same time.
“No…” I said in a small voice. Peach-chan deeply sighed while Mikado-chan slapped her own forehead.
“Well, you gotta find out soon what Yamada-san answers you!” Mikado-chan declared.
“B-But…”
“Wait, if you weren’t with Yamada-san until late time last night, where were you?” Peach-chan was obviously puzzled.
“Uhm…” I sheepishly looked at Peach-chan as if I was expecting her to guess.
“Hmmm?” What’s going on here?” Mikado-chan curiously asked, looking puzzled also.
“Well… I was with Ryutaro-san…” I said in a small voice.
“Ehhh? You were with Ryutaro-san? What were you doing with him until late time?” Peach-chan widened her eyes.
“Ohhh~… I smell something fishy here~.” Mikado-chan teased.
“It’s nothing! We just talked on the beach-side!” I defended. I was starting to feel like I was turning mad red.
“Areee~? Why are you red, Yuriko-chan?” Mikado-chan teased again with a smug on her face, poking my cheeks.
“NOTHING! I-I’ll just shower!” I dashed to the bathroom.
When I went out of the bathroom, I looked around and Mikado-chan and Peach-chan were nowhere to be found. I figured out that they went ahead for breakfast.
Just when I brushed my hair a bit and got ready to leave, my phone rang.
“Hello?”
“Yuriko-chan! We’re in the dining hall. Just find us when you get here.” Mikado-chan cheerfully said. “Oh, and the key’s next to the lamp. Don’t forget to lock the room.”
“Okay, got it.” I grabbed the key and Mikado-chan hung up.
Since I was at the 15th floor, the elevator ride felt like forever. To top it all, I was alone. And for a really nice hotel, the elevator looked like it has been there for centuries. The inside was nice, but it made strange sounds that seem like it was going to break down anytime soon.
On the 10th floor, the door opened. Since I was looking down at the ground, I didn’t notice who came in until a familiar voice called out to me.
“Ah, Yuriko-chan. Good morning.” I looked up to see who it was. It was Yamada-san!
I panicked in my head. “G-Good morning…” I stuttered, but tried to look normal. But my heart was pounding.
All I did was watch the number of the floors faster. I felt like the atmosphere was starting to fill with so much tension and awkwardness.
“Uhm…” Yamada-san uttered, as if he wasn’t sure what to say.
Just when he started, we heard a loud noise created by the elevator, as if the elevator was dragged down by force.
“KYA!” I lost my balance from the shock and fell. In the blink of an eye, everything went off. I couldn’t see anything. But I felt something on my face. I felt Yamada-san’s chest on my face. I fell on Yamada-san!
“Ow…” Yamada-san muttered.
“Oh! I’m sorry!” I hurriedly moved away.
“No problem… How about you? Are you hurt?” I wasn’t sure where he was.
“Y-Yeah…” I tried to stay put from my place.
“Man, this would be a problem. It’s so dark here.” I heard rustling sounds. “Got it.” Just then, I heard a clicking sound and next thing I knew, I saw Yamada-san holding a small flash-light.
“I left it in my pocket when we had to go somewhere. Good thing I left it with me,” I just watched him as he tried to press the emergency buttons. But to no avail.
So we had no choice but to wait for someone to help us since we couldn’t contact anyone with our phones because obviously, we were stuck in an elevator where we can’t get any signal.
Yamada-san sighed and sat down on the opposite corner of where I was sitting.
We didn’t talk for awhile. But eventually, that didn’t last long because Yamada-san broke the ice.
“About what you told me last night…” Because the flashlight was in the middle, I saw Yamada-san looking away. I felt like my heartbeat stopped for a second with tension. I waited for him to continue.
“I really don’t know how to answer you…” I was expecting a rejection, by the tone of his voice. But I guess I was wrong…?
“But… I appreciate your feelings.” Yamada-san smiled softly. I glanced at him and he was looking straight through my eyes.
“I-I’m glad you appreciate it…” I wasn’t sure what to say. I was so lost with words.
“Thank you also for being so honest.” He smiled again. I felt my heart was beating faster, seeing him smile softly at me.
“You know? I actually find you very cute.” Yamada-san came close to me and patted my head.
“T-Thanks…” I felt my face blushing. Thank God it was dark. He wouldn’t notice.
A couple of minutes passed and there were still no signs of rescuers. It was starting to get really hot and I felt my sweat dripping down my neck. I was starting to pant. We both sat in silence and all we could hear was the sound of our beating.
“Aaaagh~! It’s so hoooot! Why aren’t there anyone helping us yet?!” Yamada-san complained. Just after he tried to fain himself, he started unbuttoning his white polo. I widened my eyes and felt my heart racing. I looked away immediately.
More minutes have passed and the flashlight also gave up. The only light we had faded and it was dark again.
“Oh noooo~…” I whined. It was starting to get hotter than it already was and I was starting to feel dizzy. My breathing became unusually faster and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was eventually gasping lightly.
Ryosuke’s POV
“Yuriko-chan, are you alright?” I noticed her gasping a bit.
“I… I’m okay.” She said. But she didn’t sound okay to me.
Darn it! If only the flashlight didn’t die… I need to see if she’s okay.
“Y-Yamada-san…?” I tried to look for where she was. “I… I can’t breathe properly…” I knew she was getting suffocated. I’m not surprised. It was starting to get REAAAALLY hot here.
“Yuriko-chan, hang on. There should be someone who can help us soon.” I tried to encourage her, though I wasn’t sure how long more we’ll be stuck here. It was so hot and we could barely see anything. I couldn’t even see myself.
I wanna get out of here. Come on!
I tried slamming on the emergency button. But obviously, nothing happened.
We were probably in the elevator for about an hour.
“Yuriko-chan?” I was starting to get worried because we sat around for an hour without a word.
“Y-Yamada-san…” I was getting so worried of her. So I tried to make my way to her in the dark. But instead, I tripped over something. Maybe her foot?
With that, the power went on. As soon as I opened my eyes after I tripped, I found myself on top of her. She fainted and collapsed on the floor.
What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?
I wasn’t sure how to get her up either. The elevator kept going down the way it should have before it stopped.
Before the elevator stopped, I tried to get up with Yuriko-chan, but all her weight was pulled down, so I couldn’t carry her up.
When the elevator stopped in the ground floor, the door opened and I was still struggling to get her up.
“Yamada?” I looked up and I saw Ryutaro staring back at me with a confused look. He stared at me with Yuriko-chan still laid down. Then Chinen ducked his head out behind Ryutaro with a surprised look on his face. The he giggled a bit.
“Yama-chan, what were you planning to do to Yuriko-chan?”
“W-What?” Then I realized my polo shirt was still open and I looked like I was pinning Yuriko-chan on the floor.
“In the elevator? That’s not good, Yama-chan.” Chinen smirked. It was annoying.
“Shut up! Help me up here, will you?” Ryutaro came inside the elevator and helped me lift Yuriko-chan while Chinen held the door open for us.
“What happened to Yuriko-chan?” Ryutaro still had his confused look on his face.
“She fainted because we got stuck inside and it was so hot.”
“We can’t go all the way to the 15th floor to bring her to her room.” Ryutaro stated.
“Yeah, the elevator might break down again and we’ll all get stuck here.” I rolled my eyes.
“Ryutaro, you have the nearest room from here among all of us. Why don’t we bring her there?” Chinen looked at Ryutaro.
“Well, I don’t mind…” Ryutaro muttered.
We got to Ryutaro’s room about 5 minutes later. Chinen opened the door and luckily, none of Ryutaro’s roommates were around.
We out Yuriko-chan on top of the nearest bed from the door and I prepared some ice bags so that we can put it on her head to cool down.
“Ah! Yama-chan! We promised the people from class that we’d go swimming with them! They might be waiting for us.” Chinen patted my shoulder.
“Oh, yeah, yabai! Ryutaro, do you think you can watch over Yuriko-chan?”
“Yeah,”
“Alright, let’s go, Chinen.”
Ryutaro’s POV
It’s been a few minutes since we brought her here. She still hasn’t woken up… I wonder if she’ll be okay like this.
She moved a bit and the ice bag was about to fall. So I grabbed a chair and sat next to the bed she was sleeping on. I fixed the ice bag.
She’s usually the type who stays in the corner because she’s really shy. But she’s really cute.
Her face was so smooth and she has long eyelashes. She had a small mouth with thin, pink lips that looked really soft. She looked like an angel.
Yuriko’s POV
I slowly opened my eyes and I felt something cold and heavy on my forehead. I got it and it was an ice bag.
What happened to me?
I got up to check where I was. It didn’t look like my room at all. And I couldn’t find anyone.
I looked around to figure out where I was. But I still couldn’t figure it out.
I heard a knock on the door. One of the students from the higher batches came in.
“Oh, Yuriko-chan, right? How are you feeling?” The boy I didn’t know smiled at me.
“I’m feeling better…” I was puzzled.
“Ryutaro told me about what happened. Feel free to stay longer if you still want to rest.”
“Thank you… but I think I’ll go back to my room now.”
“Are you sure you can go alone?”
“Yes, thank you for letting me stay.”
I was feeling a bit dizzy, but I managed to walk myself out of the room.
Ryutaro-san? That was his room? …so he brought me there?
The thought of it was making my heart pound. It made me feel dizzier.
When I was near the elevator, I saw Ryutaro-san walking towards the direction I came from. He stopped walking when he saw me.
“Yuriko-chan, you’re okay now?”
“Yes, uhm…” I felt myself blushing. “T-Thank you for letting me stay in our room…”
“No problem.” Ryutaro-san smiled softly. I felt my heart so warm. “Let me accompany you to your room. I’m afraid that you might faint on the way again.”
I told him not to, but he insisted. And somehow, a part of me wanted that anyway. “Thank you, I really appreciate.” I smiled.
We stopped in front of the door and I turned to face him.
“Thank you so much.”
“You take care of yourself, ne?” He patted my head. I sheepishly smiled at him and watched him until his back view faded into the hallway.
