Those short little hairs at the back of his neck, and the way he ducked his head

Ah, shit. Like I need another fandom.

I'm getting my hands on a copy of ST, because dammit, I can't wait. I'll buy the DVD the second it comes out, but I need something NOW. (Just went to see it again today = EEK - but I can't pay $10 as often as I want to dig on this film).

It's that kiss. I swear, my thighs are still damp. Does anybody else feel that way? Day-uhm. And the one-two punch of the wonderful acting and the sheer shock of it.

It has such great possibilities. I keep wondering what it implies, both past and future, and about the two of them. Apparently, Kirk wasn't the only one whose story shifted; although it's always been clear that Spock and Uhura have history, it was never implied that it was anything sexual. Spock Prime did have a human girlfriend when he was young, but couldn't handle it and broke it off. This Spock doesn't seen to have that problem, as he seems to lean more to his human side than Spock Prime. He has more expression, and he displays feeling more. (But then, so did Spock Prime then - see my icon.) His struggle isn't just internal, either, as he's also got that grudge against the Vulcan Academy, which I don't think was the case before. So he's somewhat more riled-up in general as a person, and thus more open to, for lack of a better word, hotness.

Uhura, however, is definitely still Uhura. None of this surprises me out of her at all. She was always both empathetic and sensual, and she certainly had admiration for Spock. But his manner settled their relationship firmly in cordial work mode, so amused respect was as far as it ever went with those two. Here, though, Spock is different as a person (check out how he walks away from the bridge after his breakdown of control), so her reaction to him as a male has room to be physical. Hats off to the writers, because they wrote her perfectly. Aside from the stylistic differences between a woman of the 60's and one from our decade, she always sounds and behaves just as you'd expect from Uhura. That moment when in the elevator when she offers her help, the way she accepts his answer is perfect. If Spock is gonna have a smokin' hot girlfriend, holy shit, you couldn't do better than the Bridge Goddess herself.

And you know, seeing the movie again, all of this makes that first scene between them - where she's following him around, berating him for assigning her to another ship - so much funnier. It just tickled me enormously to see Spock in so typical a bf/gf scene. The guys who wrote this have style, but they also understand the ST style, and they blend them together beautifully.

Now, let's just see them pull it off again. (Without recycling another old ST story, please.) Give us a really excellent sophomore effort, and we'll have another series, and I'll be very. very. happy.
