okay. So... didn't go anywhere for break. Kate and i are both broke and lazy. we DID level our Diablo II characters up quite a bit (quick explanation so the world doesnt pin us as losers: my brother is 13. he has this little computer in his room, but he doesnt sleep there, he doesnt like sleeping in his room. so at night, kate and i gather around his computer with snacks and play all his little games. Diablo II is the best of them.).
So my entire week, which started out pretty purposeless (i spent all afternoon on the first Sunday getting out my old My Little Ponies and brushing their hair) - my entire week became devoted to saving the CRX from rust. The original plan was to just sand down the rust, de-rust it, and repaint those parts. But once i'd sanded down the rust and put the anti-rust stuff on (which took all day Monday), there were gigantic gaping holes on both hips of the car, around the bottom of the gas tank, and in the bottom of both door panels. one of the door panel holes was big enough to fit my arm through. i then decided, with the help of one of the guys in the shop at my dads office, who mentored me through this whole thing, that i was going to patch and fill the holes with bondo.
ahh, bondo. the car still reeks of it on the inside.
this took three solid days of work. bondo, let bondo dry, power sand, bondo, let bondo dry, power sand.
finally, on Friday, i declared it decently done. you cant continue being picky when you have to get your ass back to school in a day. i started masking off the parts i didnt want painted. Kate came out to help. it took us all day. eight solid hours of taping. (if i still had access to my sit account, i'd up a picture of the final product). then Wayne primed it for us.
Saturday we painted. spray painting is a bitch, by the way, and this summer i want to take it back to the office, sand her down, and just repaint the entire thing with the airbrush painter. then my dad riveted the black trim on the doors back on, and i was good to go. i also razor-bladed the red and black pinstripes off the sides - they just didnt say cool to me anymore.
as soon as i can get a pic up, i will, but in the meantime... youll just have to visualize. it looks much better without the rust but i didnt bargain for an entire week of work. and it's terminal rust, too. my dad gives it two years, tops. damnit...
so anyway, happy easter everyone (easter is the name of the pagan goddess of spring, as a little fyi). wish me luck on my no-sugar-in-April kick.
