History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Ishida Uryuu is a Quincy, a division of humans born with the ability to use the spirit particles around them to perform crazy feats of spirit-based archery. However, Uryuu is close to becoming the last Quincy. With the exception of his father, the rest of the clan has passed on, the result of a rather messy history with the Shinigami. This has long since been dealt with by the time Uryuu matured, and wouldn't have had much bearing on his life were it not for his grandfather, Ishida Souken. Souken was a closer father figure to Uryuu than his biological one, and taught him the code, techniques and history of the clan. Souken's teachings provided much of the foundation for Uryuu's philosophy and sense of morality, and it was the circumstances of his death that incited his hatred of Shinigami (this has lessened since becoming a sometimes-ally of Kurosaki Ichigo and learning who was truly behind his grandfather's death).

Ishida is first introduced as one of Ichigo's classmates, top of his class and president of the school's handicraft club. Out of a desire to prove that a Quincy can protect the town from Hollows better than a Shinigami could, and that their presence isn't needed, he forced Ichigo into a challenge that ironically ended up endangering the very town he claimed to protect. When the two finally set aside their differences to fix the mess, they ended up forming a begrudging allyship. From there it was only a matter of time before he became a part of the group, even traveling with Ichigo, Orihime and Chad into Soul Society to save Rukia.

He returned from this affair with his powers stripped, as they were burned away when he was forced to use a Quincy artifact to defeat the Shinigami captain Kurotsuchi Mayuri. As a result of this he drew away from the group for some time, too proud to to admit that he'd lost his power. Ishida gained it back after submitting to a condition from his father and undergoing secret training, and upon discovering that Inoue has been kidnapped he joined with Ichigo and Chad again to rescue her from Heuco Mundo. There he faced and defeated an Arrancar and a former Espada before running into the Octava Szayel-Apporro. Though he teamed up with Renji, the two were overwhelmed due to the Espada's tricks and the fact that Szayel had enough data on him to negate his attacks. At the last moment the two were saved by the unlikely appearance of Mayuri, and after being healed Ishida continued on to find Orihime.

During Ichigo's battle with Ulquiorra, Uryuu took Orihime away from the fight to keep her safe, but ended up bringing her back when she plead to be returned. When it seemed like Ichigo had been killed he fought the Espada himself (giving Orihime time to try and heal Ichigo) and ended up losing an arm in the process. Ichigo did revive, but it was in the form of a bestial Hollow. After he defeats Ulquiorra, Uryuu tries to stop the Hollowfied Ichigo from decimating the Espda further, claiming that he would lose his humanity. Ichigo stabbed him with his Zanpakutou, too lost in the form to know better.

[!!CANON UPDATE!!] Uryuu was healed by Orihime after Ichigo returned to normal, and the two stayed in Hueco Mundo with the others until after Ichigo's battle with Aizen had finished. Aizen had been defeated, but Ichigo suffered the heavy cost of the loss of all his abilities, just as Uryuu had suffered when using the Quincy Final Form.

A year passed in Karakura town. Uryuu became class president, and with Ichigo unable to use his spiritual abilities, he's taken up the job of defending the area from Hollows under direction from Urahara Kisuke. Lately, however, there's been something strange about Ichigo's reiatsu, and Uryuu is trying to investigate what may be causing the fluctuations.

Character Personality: At the core of Uryuu's personality is a sense of pride, a chivalrous moral code and a desire to prove himself. The strongest statement he can make is to "swear on the pride of the Quincy". It is his pride that pushes him to try and cover any sign of pain or fear from an enemy or his allies. When he lost his powers to the Quincy Final Form, his pride is what caused him to withdraw from the group without explanation, not willing to let the others pity him or perceive him as weak. When his father, Ryuuken, gave him the ultimatum that he disassociate from the Shinigami or never regain his abilities, he accepted the terms even though it meant submitting to this father because his pride couldn't stand that he remain powerless. This more often than not also translates to arrogance, such as when he told the Shinigami Captain Mayuri that he would spare him if he were to "beg forgiveness", or instructed a defeated Arrancar to tell Aizen that it was the Quincy he should fear, not the Shinigami.

The "pride of the Quincy" is part of the larger set of the Quincy clan ethos, which includes a strong sense of chivalry. It is ironic that Quincy dress should be all white, as a white knight is exactly what Uryuu seems to perceive himself as. He doesn't tolerate people taking advantage of or being abusive towards women. He dislikes men who use their position to be lascivious, and was outraged by Captain Mayuri's treatment of his lieutenant, despite that the woman was technically his enemy. Uryuu's desire to uphold what he views as just applies to both sexes, but he seems to take stronger offense at wrong done towards women.

As mentioned, Uryuu has an intense desire to prove himself. He seizes opportunities to showcase his talents, sometimes going to great lengths to do so. However, this drive is tempered by logic. If Uryuu judges it to be more intelligent to avoid or end a fight rather than continue simply for the sake of claiming victory, he'll do so shamelessly.

Uryuu ultimately relies on his intelligence in and out of battle, and it may be his most formidable weapon. Uryuu is top of his class, an excellent strategist, creative (in both clothing design and battle techniques), a Quincy prodigy (he has mastered extremely rare and difficult Quincy techniques and weapon use), and knows at least one other language (Spanish). He is constantly analyzing his surroundings and his opponent, to the degree that he was even noting the waves between Captain Mayuri's spiritual pressure, and quickly becomes alert to suspicious behavior. Uryuu's intelligence sometimes conflicts with an age-appropriate desire to look cool. He'll make dramatic statements in battle or retort enemy provocations with cocky superiority, and wears a white mantle with his costume simply because he thinks it makes it look cooler (he even brought a spare on the trip into Soul Society). He doesn't seem to realize that these little attempts to appear awesome often come off as dorky. Despite a generally calm demeanor he's also been known to flail when embarrassed or upset.

As expected of a character meant to be "the intellectual", Uryuu comes across as aloof and independent. He perpetuates this appearance himself-- despite his adventures with him, he continues to claim that he is Ichigo's rival and not his friend. His involvement in things is explained away as being convenient for him, in typical "this was my goal anway", or "I'm only here to do this, not help you". It's hinted that before falling in with Ichigo's group of friends (and with the exception of the after-school sewing club), Uryuu preferred to spend his time alone and was regarded by most as cold and distant. The exception seems to be his friendship with Orihime, whom Ishida has a noticeable attachment to.
Conditional: N/A
Character Plans: Adjustment to the situation will be his first goal, followed not long after by working with others to take down the corrupt system. He'll likely engage in vigilante activities, opposing both SERO and AGI. When he finds employment, you can be sure it won't be at anything that affiliated with either group - his morals wouldn't stand for it. He'll likely also make regular trips out during the Darkness to protect those who didn't make it home before sundown.

Hello. My name is Ishida Uryuu. I've already read a number of posts on this network, as well as spoken at length with various "greeters". I have a basic understanding of what's happened and of where I am. My purpose at the moment is to look for information regarding several people: Inoue Orihime, Kurosaki Ichigo, Yasutora Sado and Kuchiki Rukia. I have reasonable faith that if any of them are in the city, they will have already introduced themselves. Kurosaki, especially, will not have kept his mouth shut.

[an uncomfortable pause, and the teen's emotionless expression wavers]

Ah, and I have an additional request. It... somehow appears as though I've posted to this network before, despite having no memory of being here before or making the entries. Any explanations concerning this would be appreciated.

Third Person Sample: The last Ishida Uryuu remembered, Orihime had been using her powers to heal him, and he had been missing a hand and a good deal of blood from the stab wound to his gut. Understandably, to go from being grievously injured in the Hollow-infested Las Noches to waking up fully intact on a dusty baseball field (if more than a little nauseous) had been jolting. But more worrisome still had been waking up alone. Where was Orhime? The Quincy had panicked, certain that something must have run afoul, that someone (an Espada? Aizen? That deranged scientist Mayuri?) had managed to get the drop on them and had simply left him somewhere where he could do no damage. It had been a wound more stinging than any sword could inflict to think that he'd failed to protect her again.

The first greeter Uryuu had encountered explained that the situation was somewhat stranger than that.

His first few hours traveling through the city to the Tower Apartments elevated that strangeness to a level of absurdity. Not only was he no longer in Las Noches, but he he wasn't even in Japan. Somehow Uryuu had been taken to Canada, and to a place where mutants, special abilities and outright bizarre beings were the norm, where people hid inside at night because of monsters (Hollows, he wondered?) and where citizens spoke openly about visiting the black market. It was madness. The practices of the two leading companies, if the rumors were true, were revolting. It was a lot to absorb, but absorb he did.

Using posts on the NV as his guide, Uryuu read and learned, and by noon - only four hours after his unceremonious arrival - the Quincy came to the most startling discovery of all: somehow, against all logic and memory, he had been here before.
