So it occurs to me that some people reading this journal does not know what this thing called Human Target is that I am whining about. It does not occur to me that this doesn't bother anyone but me xD So I have taken it upon myself to do some postmortem education and have a whiny LJ elegy to my favorite TV show. Beware those with slow internet, there is a lot of picspam. So, without further ado: the best of Human Target, RIP <3
Well guys. It happened. My favorite TV show Human Target has been cancelled after only two seasons. That's right. Two seasons. It didn't even reach the Star Trek Limit. *a thousand tears* Anyways, in honor of the best show ever, here is a montage of the Best of Human Target.
On January 17, 2010, a much awaited show (as far as I was concerned) finally graced our homes:
Human Target
It had a delightful and dynamic cast, who frequently roamed about offices that were blown up. Like so:
How could you go wrong with a cast like that? Look at their little faces
Anyways. The stars of this show were:
the very pretty Mark Valley: playing the role of Christopher Chance, ex-assassin, bodyguard and golden retriever. A suave golden retriever
the ever-hilarious Chi McBride: playing the role of Laverne Winston, ex-detective, business partner and babysitter to Chance. Basically the mom of the group.
the object of my creepy affection, Jackie Earle Haley: playing the role of Guerrero, assassin for hire, "brother" of Chance and antagonizer of Winston. Also a squirrel. One who never stops eating.
This show had it all. Action:
Romance:
Bitches flipping planes and blowing shit up:
aawww yeah
Monasteries!
Close male friendship!
and there was bantering and bickering and BROTHERS T.T
Also: hot girls
hot girls shooting guns omg
And that is all in the FIRST SEASON YOU GUYS. Then Jonathan Steinberg disappeared and some new guy took over named Matt Miller. We....don't see eye to eye about some of the changes he made, the most important thing he did was add two new people to the cast.
the lovely Indira Varma: playing the role of Ilsa Pucci, a billionaire widow who "bankrolls Chance's redemption". She is also Boss Lady who Nobody Liked but Me
and:
the adorable Janet Montgomery: playing the role of Ames, a thief, blatant Mary Sue that I somehow still love, and the group's fake daughter.
Together, they made the new team of Human Target:
wookit their widdle faces
And they had a good run. There was a hilarious banter, moral ambiguity, brotherhood, patchwork families, the theme of redemption, loyalty, explosions, mindless violence and heart. The show was not particularly good, but it had a lot of spirit, and self-awareness, and it just warmed my heart every time I watched it. Also it had this:
Shameless eye candy for EVERYONE!! 8D
It was a great show. So why did it fail? Well, first off, Mr. Miller made a lot of changes that I don't think the fans really liked. The two women additions aside, the theme song changed from this:
to this:
yeeaaahhh... And among other things, the writing really dropped off and the stories started making less sense than before. But it was just getting off the ground! The real reason (this is me being bitter) is that it was hosted by Fox. Yes, the Fox that cancelled Firefly and Dollhouse and a slew of shows that people like. THANKS A LOT FOX. >C
But all bitterness aside, I'm genuinely disappointed that Fox did not allow this show to grow into itself. It had a lot of promise to bring some old-fashioned shenanigans back to television. That and everyone on that cast was delightful. The first season dialogue was snappy, hilarious and only heavy handed some of the times. The second season was a half-step back, but certainly shouldn't have merited the axe. But I am positive that American Idol will get some more seasons :/ Which is stupid, but that is another rant altogether.
So goodbye Human Target. I will really miss you. And your shenanigans. And your surprisingly not gay bromance. T.T And the weekly dose of Jackie Earle Haley. For it is starting to hit me: I will not be able to sit down with my roommate once a week and watch Jackie Earle Haley blow shit up for an hour. And that is terrible.
You know what else is terrible? There will never be another show that has this:
And with that, I leave you. And I leave Human Target. Thank you, cast and crew, for such a fun, ludicrous show. I will be buying the season two DVD and weeping. I love you all <3
