Protect us while we sleep

So.  I'm going to be in hospital in about an hour.  I'll be out of contact from tomorrow morning until... I don't know.  At least the weekend, I think.  The surgery starts at either 08:00 or 11:00 and will take about eight hours.  I'll be sure to LJ it in excruciating detail afterwards.

I've spent some of the weekend trying to get my room in York more or less ready for the end of my tenancy, although my parents will finish that up tomorrow.  Sunday was my last day at English Martyrs for a while, and a mixture of emotions - the last time I shall be there for a while, and possibly the last time I'll see Father Dominique in his capacity as EM's parish priest as he is being moved to Hull in September.  He's looked after me very well, and he will be missed.  I did speak to Steve, my confirmation sponsor, and we thought of some things I might get involved with when I'm improved, so that is something to look forward to.

Sunday during the day was no good for me, as I spent most of it far too hot and feeling rather sorry for myself, but I did go on a walk down by the Ouse in the cool of evening, beneath the quiet cloister of willow trees which runs along the river banks.

Yesterday I said goodbye to my shop, at least until October.

This morning was the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, which is a holy day of obligation.  I ended up at the morning Mass at St. Malachy's, where all this started off, a few pews behind the primary school children.

If anyone wants to visit me once I'm conversational and not hopped up on opiates, I shall be on Ward 14 as soon as I'm out of intensive care.  Please do coordinate visiting with my parents, or with Dave and Lucy with whom they will be liaising on that sort of thing, as there are set visiting hours and limits to the number of visitors at any one time.

Save us, Lord, while we are awake, protect us while we sleep that we may keep watch with Christ and rest with him in peace.
