my igloo
how comforting, this,
my fortress of ice
in september.
while others prepare
for autumn, casually
wrapping a scarf around
their still tanned necks,
i retreat to my ice castle,
though deceiving,
as it is painted brown,
and looks very much like
a house.
one would imagine this
house to be like that
of any other on this street
on the inside.
but beware, untrained eye,
this is, indeed,
an igloo. built in
1963, with plumbing, even!
and windows! which do
little, if anything, to
insulate while they
illuminate.
how nice! i think,
not having to worry
about a bill this month.
how convenient! i think,
is it when one's heater
breaks in pullman,
in september.
