Building a Mystery

Oct 05, 2008 11:20

As I have blathered on an on about endlessly in chat:

I was all set with my Nano for this year. The outline was done, I just needed to fill it out and do some character work.  I was excited and ready to go. Everything was going to be easy-peasy this year.

Then the new plot bunny struck. And it's a really fun bunny. I can't stop playing with it. I like the characters. I like the plot that's starting to unfold.  I was watching a Jane Austen adaptation and came up with a plot that's Jane Austen, fantasy and cozy mystery all wrapped up together. And I think I love it.

But it is a mystery. I've never written a mystery before.

I found this website:  http://ticket2write.tripod.com/id28.html
It tracks the morphology of a 12 chapter mystery.   I was looking for something along the lines of  Propp's Morphology of a Folk Tale:  http://changingminds.org/disciplines/storytelling/plots/propp/propp.htm

So far the mysteries are there, I just need to figure out my clues.
