[Its no wonder she was one of the first to feel something tugging at the back of her brain. Hell, he could've just reached out and grabbed her hair and it would've gotten the same reaction.]

Does this mean you're feeling better now?

[Naturally should've expected that, Elena was one of the closest within the web now. Not exactly who he'd been looking for, he'd hoped for a response further afield really. Idly he wondered how much will he'd have over the blonde Turk from such close proximity; was it worth a test? Sephiroth needed no more than just to ponder the idea and instinct responded. Like lightning the suggestion shot to her, a very strong desire to kneel right about now]

Mother has given me so much. I've never felt like this before. [The voice was as clear as if he were inside her head talking directly to her brain. Jubilant and awe-filled though in some ways the tone was almost emotionless too]

[Even though the fact that he seemed to be able to violate her mind, Elena didn't quite mind being able to converse without having to speak. At the moment, she couldn't trust her voice. This made things much easier, much less...formal. Thoughts were thoughts, they could be kept to oneself - when you didn't have people listening in, of course. But words...words had more impact when said aloud ( ... )

[There. That wasn't so hard. Well in fact quite the opposite. Getting Elena to do just that had been effortless. Was this a side-effect of...

No. Mother had put Elena with him for a reason. He had yet to figure out the exact reason but at least she wasn't arguing anymore, or pulling cheap jokes either.

If he could have moved his hand from her mindless circle drawing any quicker it's likely he'd have back handed her in the process. Touching him like he was some sort of pet or something? Is that how subjects touched their Gods though? With a sense of familiarity so deep it comforted them to actually touch? Possible. So the hand returned to where it was before.]

Never broken a promise. [He mused. Didn't bother to even answer her question]

[A twinge trickled through Cloud's mind; he ignored it, or tried to

[Another successful reply which told Sephiroth all he needed to know about it's originator. It was expected that Cloud would try to ignore him.]

It's not that easy, is it?

[At Sephiroth's quiet mocking tones, Cloud felt himself go still with rage. That had always been his habit. Cid and Barret shouted and swore; Cloud would shut others out. That had involved driving off on Fenrir and finding some time alone, but when the source of his rage was inside his head, such a course was not likely to be effective.

Ignoring Sephiroth had never been easy; even so, it was either that, or take potshots at him.]

Easy enough. I have a big enough sword.

[It was a while before Sephiroth received an answer from Cloud. He wondered briefly why it was. His connection with his nemesis didn't seem even half as crystal as it used to be; he couldn't tell Cloud's emotions or get any inkling of his thoughts in this particular instance. He figured that would come back with time]

[Sephiroth allowed a vision of his smirk travel down into Cloud's mind eye.]

You should know not to play games, Cloud.

[Out of earshot, Sephiroth didn't hear the professors words. Probably just as well. He did note the initial confusion of this particular reaction and how quickly it was quashed. He concluded that he must have touched this thread before, it had to be someone he'd influenced like this before. It certainly felt familiar that was for sure.

He laughed louder, out of spite? or to feel a more distinctive reaction by which he might be able to identify this person]

[Memories were easy things to share along the great-jenovaic vines once they'd slipped out. Images flashed behind Sephiroth's closed eyes]

[Laughter was blinded away with white rooms. Bright lights. Sephiroth knew that the infant pictured was himself though the memories theirselves were lost to him. After all they weren't the sort of memories any child would want to retain, the brain is a glorious thing with it's selective memories. The charts, if anything else gave away the Professors identity.]

[Sephiroth was sure Elena had killed him. But then if Sephiroth had paused at all during the breakout to check, he- he didn't want to think about that he could have still been stuck there. How ironic the tables had turned again?]

.... [Silence prevailed]
