Hi, I read an entry asking for help with being comfortable with your boyfriend and dealing with your ED. I replied but since I'm not in the community it wouldn't post, so here it is:
I think that it's great that you are trying to deal with your ED. I think that you should look for this movie called, Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story. It's a banned film about Karen Carpenter's eating disorder and its connection to the pressures put on her by the people around her. It's acted out by barbie dolls. Anyway, it made this big controversy when it was put out in the late 80s. Richard Carpenter (her brother) won't give the filmmaker the rights to any of the songs used in the film, and he also condemns it (mostly because it portrays the Carpenter family as psychotic). I think the only thing that it is allowed for is the use in ED rehab centers... Actually I think they tried to get Richard to agree to it only being used to help people with EDs but I still think he said "No."
I'm a cinema major if you're wondering why I'm spewing all of this information at you.
I don't know if it will make you feel worse about yourself or if it will help you, but I thought that I would mention it to you.
Unfortunately, the only way that you would be able to get it is through someone that you know who is really into movies, a really cool non-chain video store, or through E-Bay. On E-Bay you can type in the film title and bid on either the VHS copy (which is what you would want if you were concerned in preserving the "spirit" of the banned film itself -- another long explaination) or a DVR copy. I'm pretty sure they're running for about $10 or so. Also, if you are seeing a counselor about your ED, mention it to them, if they haven't heard of it maybe they would be interested in seeing it for themself -- then you can just borrow it from them.
Anyway, I really wish you luck in getting better. This disease is not your fault and no matter how hard it might be, you can get through it.
