HISTORY
As one of the Four Great Angels in Heaven, Raphael, the Archangel of Wind, was promised a high ranking in the Ministry of Health. At young age he was the head of his division, pure and innocent. His prominent career was brought down by a fallen angel named Belial, who worked under him, corrupting and killing until Raphael caught her in the act. He was blamed for the fallen one’s sins, scorned and doubted, which eventually lead to him closing himself away from public. It’s probably the sole reason for his hatred and constant interest towards females.
He grew up lazy, womanizing, half-interested pushover, befriending only precious few and keeping others an arm’s length away by his intelligence and uninterested nature. He’s lecherous and lacks loyalty towards anyone but the other elemental angels (and sometimes them as well) and perhaps his second-in-command, Barbiel, his secretary.
The Messiah’s sister/lover Sara dropping on him (quite literally) gets him involved with the rebellion and the political upheaval in Heaven. He agrees to help the Messiah, by healing his dead body, if Sara will give him a kiss. In truth it’s probably just a way out of admitting that Uriel managed to trick both him and Michael. Lazy and unwilling to get involved, he still has a pride.
Later on he presents uncharacteristic interest towards Sara, who is the reincarnation of one of the elemental angels, saving her as she is accused of loving her brother and thus sinning against god. He’s convinced that he has fallen in love with her, her straightforward attitude and her honesty. He takes her away from the chaos, and her brother, keeping her as a captive until a meeting between himself, Uriel, Michael and Setsuna (the Messiah) forces him to see that she does not love her but her brother.
He joins the crew as they go retrieve Sara, and gets caught in a battle with Sandalphone who has taken over Sara in hopes of making her give birth to his new body. Lucifer intervenes and kills Metatron who is the only possible way to control Sandalphone. Sara is left in state of madness, viewing her brother as a fake, enemy. Raphael stays behind to watch over her when the others chase after Lucifer to the tower of Etenamenki.
Raphael is intelligent, sarcastic, and observant if a bit egotistic. His posture of a ruined idealist drives people easily away from him, frustrated on his pessimistic attitude. Despite his obvious intellect, he’s quite blind when it comes to himself. He’s prone to making mistakes, keep grudges and scorns people who do not share his opinions. His favorite past time is flirting, sinning. But when, occasionally, he feels like working, his talents lie in healing, and it is said that his control over the element Air combined with Michael’s Fire is a powerful weapon.
