I had a lot of excuses today. "It looks like it'll rain." "It looks hot." "I think it's humid" "It IS hot and humid!" "I just ate." "I need time to do something else." Each of those was followed by a "But later, I will definitely go out for a walk or a jog or something." And then, I got a headache. But... then, it was almost 7 pm and I realized that I would not go out in the dark. So, it was time to go.
And I finally (finally!) stopped reading cute pithy quotes about running and went running. Outside. Which I have NEVER done. I hate the very idea of it. There are PEOPLE outside. People with EYES. And well, I don't look like the pictures of runners that go with those pithy quotes. And.... and I am just too self-conscious.
But, at 7pm, I went outside in my running shoes, walked up the street to the start of the path through the aqueducts... and set off. I ran down to the middle school--there's a track there. Tracks are made for running, so it's a bit less weird, and besides, it's usually empty, so no people with eyes. But, well, there's a nice empty parking lot around the school, I can run through that. And I did. And then there was the nice empty driveway. And I ran out onto the streets. And the first time I was about to pass some guy walking down the sidewalk, I was freaking out a bit. Behind him was ok, but if I passed him and was in front, he would be looking at my ass as I was running. Ugh. But I got closer and noticed something. The guy was all sweaty. Maybe he'd been running before, too. And suddenly, I stopped caring. And kept going.
It wasn't my longest run, or my fastest. But I think I accomplished something today. yay.
