Sometimes, I just get way too far into what I'm reading.
Example: (this takes place in a magical universe, obviously) A pregnant woman is told (in a prophecy) that some kind of "ancient pain" will afflict her, but she will use this pain to bring her enemy to his knees, because he does not have "the strength of the weak".
And the characters spend a great deal of time being confused about what this all means, even though they specifically mention how the words sound biblical.
And I am literally ranting at the computer screen and waving a Bible, yelling "Genesis, 3:16, you idiots!" Yeah, I looked up the right verse...
Unfortunately, I expect characters in books to be moderately intelligent. How often I am disappointed.
