For my degree in teaching support I am currently studying Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. This states that there are seven different kinds of intelligence: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal ( Read more... )

I've never quite counted myself to be one or the other - I need a good balance of alone time and social time in my life, or I'm just not happy. I tend to see being alone or being with those few people I'm very close to as my base state, but I really need regular group social interaction. I thrive on it, as long as I'm not forced into it constantly, and I can get away and back to being alone when I want to be. And I can be very shy and seem introverted, but that tends to only be the case when I'm unsure, when I don't know people - once I know a group of people (or sometimes just with a few drinks in me, being honest), that really changes.

I do think it's spot on listing me higher on intrapersonal, overall. As far as other people go, I tend to be extremely good at understanding them (which I suspect ties in to my ability to understand and analyse myself, so I'd expect the two to be linked), but not always so brilliant at interacting with them.

I think anything trying to measure something as nebulous as human intelligence is bound to be limited. I do like that this system recognises those who are brilliant in certain areas, though, even if they might score poorly on a traditional test.

I wonder if they are linked (inter and intra)? Probably more than the traditional understandings of them have stated.
