I have to agree with you. Each generation is always sure they had it much harder. As a parent of four kids I really wished the kids could have watched TV in the car on long road trips. If I had little kids now the trips would have been much easier.
I do wish kids had better manners but their parents usually don't either.
I guess it depends upon where you live with the outdoor thing. Outdoors in Mass. was brilliant. Tons to do, lots of kids around without having to bike to their house. We'd have silly plays and cookouts and woods explorations. I still miss the streams and waterfalls and skating on the pond in winter (we were considered rural but it wasn't really rural at all). We didn't have many snakes or anything really dangerous and it was a pretty safe area. We'd pick strawberries and raspberries, wild grapes and blueberries in season. Play on the tire swing and climb trees and it was fun. I assume I was bored at times and I read constantly but there was always something to do and someone to play with.
