She still feels like an outsider on the ship, like she doesn't want anything enough to do the things that they do. She still feels like she should be doing something else with her life, like marrying that nice boy Yonghwa that she knew when she was Joohyun. She still feels like she doesn't belong, but if she doesn't belong then neither does Sulli, who's younger than her and is still one of the sweetest girls Seohyun has ever seen even when she's holding a knife to someone's throat.
None of that really matters though, because she still gets light-headed when Sunny smiles at her, she still loses the ability to think when Sunny pulls her in a preses their lips together and her heart still flutters when Sunny wraps her armsaround Seohyun in the middle of the night and doesn't let go until Seohyun has to practically pry them apart when it's time to work.
So Seohyun doesn't really mind that moving on is so hard because Sunny holds her hand as tight as she did that first night when Joohyun got left behind and Seohyun's life began, and she isn't showing any sign of letting go anytime soon.
---
Seohyun finally feels like she belongs when the navy blows a hole in the side of their ship and nearly drowns them all. It's chaos as they all scramble to escape and they lose everything except each other, but as Seohyun helps Sooyoung heave an officer's body overboard she realizes that this is where she's meant to be.
She looks at everyone around her and thinks that they're all pretty much in the same boat as her, both literally and figuratively. None of them have anywhere else to go back to, no one else who cares, and nothing else to do except cling to the semblance of family that Taeyeon created for them. She walks around looking for something to help with, looking for Sunny, and she notices that she doesn't react to the odd happenings around them the way she would have when she was clinging to her life as Joohyun.
Her face dosn't color when she spots Yuri struggling to breathe under the mass of girls who have thrown themselves at her, and she doesn't even flinch when she sees Jessica and Hyoyeon ready to punch each other, just waits for the inevitable admission of relief that the other is alive, and she moves on, continuing her search.
She frowns when she sees Taeyeon's shoulders shaking with silent tears and feels a pang of sadness when she realizes that their usually strong captain is staring at the spot where their ship, the one Boa left to her, should have been. When Tiffany sneaks up behind the sobbing captain and wraps her arms around the womans waist, something inside Seohyun breaks.
She gets frantic, starts rushing around on deck looking for Sunny with a desperation what wasn't there before. She's sure she almost knocked Victoria overboard, but she's too busy panicking to apologize, too busy fighting the urge to scream Sunny's name until she hears a reply. Someone notices, it might have been Yoona, and leads her in the direction of the cargo hold.
