"but it's snowing." looking like she wanted to shake the idiocy out of the other, jia repeats her sentiment. her hands were clenching and unclenching at her sides.
it's not that they were nervous, not at all (they were veterans in this kind of business after all), but there are a lot of stakes riding in this mission and their capability to blow up this establishment without leaving anyone inside alive. their handlers in korea had receive a distress call from their allies here in japan about the local mafia running a geisha house for a front while black-market business processes underneath. they were dispatched and were told to complete the mission as quiet as possible lest their information along with their other allies gets sold for millions and leaked out publicly. in their kind of business, quiet means a clean leave none alive.
min had killed a total of four men from her assigned floor just to plant other miniature explosives that should be triggered by the bigger bomb that was assigned to suji. fei and jia were distractions and mini-explosive planters at the upper floors like her so suji may have the free reign over the first floor. she was to cut off anyone trying to get out and properly plant the bomb. as it stands, suji set the bomb outside the place, under the snowy weather, under piles of snow, particularly a snowman, according to her. she definitely succeeded in fully utilizing her reign, albeit a little too fully, min thinks.
fei massages her temple and mutters in defeat, "you at least made sure it will not be ruined by melting snow, right?"
suji looked offended.
"of course i did! i even double wrapped it so nothing will seep through."
"when did you even had the time to make a snowman?" min looks at suji curiously.
"after the third man tried to escape. he was able to step out before i managed to fully barricade the door so i had to use the silencer. i dragged his body to the tree right beside the entrance and saw the piles of snow gathered near it. wrapped the bomb with plastic and tucked it into his um," suji pauses to think and then continues, "hakama was it? then i made a snowman over him."
min could feel the incredulousness filling the room. in the corner of her mind, she bets the three of them was staring at suji with wide-eyes and hanging jaws.
a literal snowman. seriously, that's talent and stupidity combined.
suji checks her phone again and calmly announces that they have less than twenty minutes to evacuate.
they all saunter off the building, stripping out of the pretty kimonos to throw it near the snowman. they are sure that the force of the blast will incinerate half of the front of the building and anything near despite the snow. their weapons are top-of-the-class after all.
they all change into standard japanese winter fashion, high cut boots and thick coats, at the corner alley before eventually walking away. min looks back and the unmoving shadows on the shoji walls clearly shows the sleeping drug they distributed are still working efficiently. she pulls her coat tighter as snow continues to softly fall around them, street devoid of people.
"what about their families?" suji inquires as she re-arranges her pink button-down winter coat. the sounds of scrunching snow under their feet were loud as she lets her voice fade.
fei sighs loudly and min sympathizes. all of them haven't had a good sleep in a while and she just wants to fly home and at least get a few hours on the plane.
"none of our concern. we don't have time to hunt their relatives down and slit their throats one by one. the locals could do that themselves." fei checks her own phone and steps a little faster. "let's hurry."
cold, min thinks.
damn weather.
