Behind the wheeling cameras and watchful audiences, both of you try to work it out - a few arguments here and there, misunderstandings and consolation. Lu Han smiles genuinely for the first time after endless conversations, wrinkles forming at the sides of his eyes, the ones you used to love tracing after a tiring day or when you’ve been too far away for a while. You take his hand, twining bony fingers together and a bright beam on your lips. They fit just right, perfect against your hold, and the way he leans in your shoulder feels like you’ve got the weight of the world. The mere fact that he’s here, that he bothered to stay to fix the struggle between you two makes your head spin in sheer delight and optimism in regards of the future.

“I’ve missed this,” you say, petting his soft locks of hair. You don’t dare to look down and meet his gaze, afraid that he’ll see the longing in your eyes. You can feel an intense stare burning your cheek and he just laughs; it’s bubbly and twinkly and all sorts of magical in its own way. Fleeting thoughts of you and him back in the day, how it was exploited for popularity flickers in your mind. The romance that could have been formed before the staged popularity is still buried in your heart, tucked in the corners ready to surface once more.

“Same,” Lu Han replies. “I don’t know why we’re even bothered by them.”

It’s a friendship that both of you hope to patch up completely one day, one that will hopefully be treasured and always last. You might regret going along with this friendship someday, maybe you’ll still want more than just a platonic relationship, but at this moment it’s all worth it and all you have to do is wait.

“Just promise me that we’ll fix this,” you say, pursing your lips.

“Of course,” Lu Han says, cackling as your grips tighten. Your eyes go brighter. “I promise.”
