eep sorry if this isn't what you wanted ;; this is such a lovely remix/song ♥

It's Joonmyun and Jongin alone on the opposite ends of the couch two hours after they arrive from the airport. They blame their wide-awakeness on jetlag despite the short flight from Beijing back to Seoul. No one believed them, but all the others were too exhausted to care, sauntering to their bedrooms and collapsing on their beds as soon as they got in the dorm room.

The two just wanted time away from the others, in the comfort of each other's company. They were too tired to talk or even play a lazy game of footsie like they used to, but being around each other was good enough.

They shared a blanket with their legs parallel, toes meeting each other's hips. Joonmyun tried to fall asleep with his earphones intact, soft ballad music playing on his phone. He sometimes peeked at Jongin on the iPad. He tried not to worry too much about the furrow of Jongin's eyebrows and the tense press of his lips. But with the way Jongin was staring at the screen, fingers sliding down carefully, Joonmyun couldn't help but stare at him with half-open eyes. At one point, Jongin threw it on the coffee table and curled up so Joonmyun didn't feel the warmth of his legs against his own anymore.

That made his stomach sink; recently, Jongin’s been acting distant. That moment was the closest they’ve been in a while, bare legs against each other’s. Jongin would usually shake Joonmyun’s hands off his shoulders and pull away when their fingers would brush against one another’s. The distance heightened especially on stage, when Joonmyun would try to make it seem like everyone was grateful and excited together when backstage it was only just nerves and tension as everyone practiced their lines individually and Jongin would just flinch away from him when he’d try to show the brotherhood that they tried to showcase and market.

At first, Joonmyun was hurt, but he knew Jongin better than to feel that way forever. Jongin just needed his space. He just wanted to focus on doing well, expectations pushing him over the edge. Joonmyun shouldn’t be a hindrance to him. He regretted bothering Jongin in the first place when he knew he was under a lot of pressure and he just wanted to concentrate, but he couldn’t help but care.

“Is something wrong?” Joonmyun finally said. His eyes were still closed; he had the feeling Jongin would rather not be seen in the state that he was in.

“It’s nothing.” Joonmyun frowned and felt a pang of hurt and distrust, but he could hear the exhaustion in the way Jongin’s deep voice cracked and anxiety in the way he sniffed and sighed, and knew Jongin couldn’t hide a thing from him (or so he hoped).

He knew he should have just pretended that nothing happened, but he felt like he had to do something. He was at a loss, though -- all he could do at this point was be honest.

“You know I love you, right?” he whispered helplessly as he opened his eyes hesitantly, only to find Jongin rubbing his eyes clear of tears.

After a few seconds, Joonmyun felt Jongin’s hand around his. “I know,” Jongin’s said softly, and for the first time in days, he sounded young again. He pushed himself up and squeezed himself beside Joonmyun, forcing Joonmyun’s arm around his to keep him from falling off.

Joonmyun smiled weakly against Jongin’s hair and hung onto his body, promising him silently that he wouldn’t let go. He didn’t mind that Jongin didn’t want to talk about it, that Jongin wasn’t pouring out his heart to him. He didn’t need words to feel trust. He felt trust in the way Jongin clung to him, how his breath felt against his chest and how their legs tangled so they wouldn’t fall. And when they did eventually fall, since the couch too small for two teenage boys to fit even against one another, they fell together.

And that was the way Joonmyun wanted it to be.
