And with every letter, Dahee just wants to be there. She wants to help calm down Jinhee’s temper, or see her smile when she’s reached a raise. She knows that she’s smiling when she doodles the characters on the margins during the writing process; she knows that Jinhee is laughing at their own little inside jokes, but Dahee desperately wishes to run away, like Jinhee did, and get out of this damn town. But that is stupid, foolish-Jinhee is older than her so she knows what is good and what is wrong. Dahee needs to learn to be patient and wait for her.

The air has turned frigid when Jiyeon hands her a letter. It has been a long time since the last time Jinhee has written and Dahee has gotten worried. Jiyeon doesn’t accept the letter she hands her, and it lays on the porch of Dahee’s house until she finally picks it up, slipping it behind Jinhee’s letter. Jiyeon doesn’t return later on in the day to accept the letter, just drives back to town.

The letter is everything that Dahee has been waiting for. Jinhee is picking her up. Two months from now, of course, but she is picking her up, and Jinhee promises everything.

Dahee waits in the field where she said goodbye to Jinhee, watching as everything ruffles in the November breeze. Her packed bag sits in the wheat beside her legs, as she watches the hill that slopes down to their small community. Jinhee will walk down that hill to greet her.

A figure appears over the mountains and Dahee smiles. It takes her a second to recognize her. She has changed just a little, with sharper eyes, lighter skin and darker hair, but the smile is just the same, and the way she runs is just the same as they push their legs to move faster, so that they can reach each other faster.

Dahee jumps into Jinhee’s arms, wrapping her legs around her torso and kissing her passionately on the lips, missing the off-cherry flavour it always brought. Jinhee is smiling ear-to-ear when they break.

“I’ve missed you so much,” Dahee admits, her eyes welling up with tears. Jinhee kisses them away.

“I missed you so much, too.” Jinhee sets her down onto her feet and kisses her lips once more, running her hands around Dahee’s neck and calming her down, kissing her tears away. “Let’s go-together.”
