taeyeon waits. taeyeon waits until dawn, until schedules start, until breakfast, until lunch, until five minutes before they have to be on stage. jessica appears out of nowhere, out of fire escapes, sneaking past fans wearing a huge hoodie, past security, past the managers and into taeyeon's arms.
jessica jumps into the ocean first, in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep. taeyeon sways on the sand, screaming when jessica splashes her with water and drags her into the sea.
they swim away from the beach, away from no eyes, into the deep. taeyeon rests her hands on jessica's shoulders and kisses her and she tastes like sugar and taeyeon knows she's going to wait again and again for jessica to come home, come home from the deep sea.
taeyeon follows jessica into the sea, into the sea of seoul-the sea of drugs and lost love and she can feel the panic rising in her throat when she sees jessica grinding with a man on the dancefloor, his hands on her hips, kissing girls in the darker corners and soon her mouth will taste of sweet, fruity cocktails, lipstick around her mouth. jessica's eyes challenge taeyeon to follow her deeper into the sea, jessica takes her hand and drags her along, but taeyeon always pushes back, lets go, just shy of the sand dropping deeper, where her feet would no longer touch the bottom.
that's when taeyeon goes home and leaves jessica stranded in the sea, stranded until she washes up in the morning waves, gentle and foamy. until she washes up wearing white, asking for forgiveness. in those small dawn hours taeyeon remembers jessica when they were younger, brighter and sharper. they wanted to shine brighter in the sea, instead they became dull lights lost in the sea, searching for each other-but searching for who they were when they were young, not who they are now (now they are people neither would ever search for in the stormy sea).
