Sungjong flinched in surprise, then turned slightly to face whoever was addressing him while adjusting the microphone taped to his face for the third time in four minutes.
The two vaguely familiar girls were watching casually, with sympathetic, yet slightly amused expressions. One had her legs crossed, the heavy, silver buckles on her boot glinting as her foot bobbed, and the other was dabbing at the bits of glitter that had been powdered heavily onto her face, looking at Sungjong through the reflection on the lit mirror. Sungjong had thought before that their debut style looked pretty flashy, but looking at the other artists there tonight, it was obvious he had been wrong. These two were no exception to the eccentricity.
“I…”
The girl looking at him directly shrugged, swiveling a bit, back and forth, in her makeup chair. “It’s seriously all right if you are…” she nudged the person sitting next to her with the perfectly arched eyebrows. “You couldn’t stop shaking the first few dozen times we performed on stage, right?”
Luna scoffed and hit her member lightly. Sungjong directed his attention to her, looking into the mirror and admiring the perfect sweep of her bangs and the pale brightness of her skin until he met her eyes.
He was about to look down, but she gave him a glowing smile, which he returned, albeit weakly.
“Well, yes… but I guess you get over it, right?” He asked with a small laugh. He swallowed, almost shocked by how shrill his voice sounded. It actually felt awkward, using it for conversation rather than singing or giving short, polite greetings to seniors that half turned with a nod in response.
But Amber only snickered, balancing her chin on the tips of her fingers and resting her elbow on the high counter. “Nah, we’re still pretty anxious, and it’s already been what, a year?” She nudged Luna, who nodded, tweaking the angle of her lashes.
“And that’s not even a lot of time, but still, there are a lot of our seniors…”
“Yunho-sshi, Leeteuk-sshi…” Luna contributed.
“Yeah, they get nervous, too, we’ve seen it.”
Their seniors…?
Something in Sungjong’s head clicked, and he said, “Oh, f(x)!”
Immediately he blushed, thinking that they would have expected him to know who they were from the beginning, but they grinned and snapped their fingers, “Yeah, that’s right!”
So it was almost instinctual when Sungjong started moving his shoulders back and forth, his hands sweeping backwards before snapping them to the front. “La Cha Ta… Like this, right?”
“Yeah, that’s us, that’s us!”
They looked so excited, clapping their hands and shaking each other that Sungjong couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh, you have a nice smile!” Luna said, catching him in the act.
