“Hey, make a wish, Jjong.”

Jinki had spoken up, interrupting one of the long, yet comfortable, pauses in the conversation they were having as they sat on their front step, letting their minds wander and their eyes adjust to the dim shine of the street lamps while the younger kids slept.

Jonghyun liked these nights. These little bits of time when he had his hands stuffed into his pockets and the cold wind bit at his cheeks and ears, but he didn’t mind at all, because they were together, so close their thighs touched.

“A wish?” Jonghyun remarked quietly after a while.

“Yeah, you make one every time a star shoots by. Right?”

The younger man put his chin his his knees. “I’ve heard… that it means that someone’s fallen in love.”

“Well, that’s weird. I’m sure more people fall in love than stars fall from space.” Onew looked up again to where Jonghyun was staring almost unblinkingly, the glow of the soft light bouncing off his wide eyes.

Jonghyun shrugged. “Yeah. I guess it happens all the time. Not that big of a deal, huh?”

“No, that’s not true,” Jinki answered, leaning back.

“We only saw that star for a little bit, but… Love can last a long time, I guess, especially if there’s someone there to love you back.”

Jinki took his eyes off the sky and set them on Jonghyun, who after a bit came back down to meet Onew’s gaze.

Jonghyun placed his hand delicately on top of Onew’s, then froze, as if he had suddenly become unsure of what he was doing. But Jinki turned his wrist and intertwined their fingers.

“Ok. I have my wish,” Jonghyun said, with his chin resting on his knees, after a few moments of enjoying the extra heat being shared between them.

Jinki smirked, his eyes still raised. “That’s funny, because I know who I’ve fallen for.”

And with a coy grin, Jonghyun looked back to where that streak of light had shot across the expanse and disappeared as quickly as it had come.

This line says so much about the setting and them, I love it.

And Onew saying more people fall in love than stars fall from space.
