how to be an idol and its synonyms, sungjong/infinite (2/2) anonymous August 13 2012, 03:04:18 UTC
"sungjong, tell woohyun he doesn't have vocal practice tomorrow."

("but hyung," sungjong starts and sunggyu stills and looks at him and sungjong realises that from that point on, things have changed. he has changed - he's the maknae now, and an idol. he also gets his first bruise that night, when woohyun finds out the truth and slams the door against his foot.

sunggyu buys him an ice cream the next day, but sungjong presses the unwrapped packet to the darkening mark instead.)

"sungjong, we're all going out for a few hours. distract the managers for us."

"sungjong. it's ok, no one will find out."

if hoya is the one who asks him to do the most innocent of things, then myungsoo is the one sungjong is most afraid of. not because he's as controlling as sunggyu, or as needy as woohyun. it is because he calls this a game: a game where both of them pretend it is real and as the months blur into another, sungjong doesn't know when the game starts and ends, or if it really ever ends because all they ever do is pretend in this industry.

today, sungjong sits at the foot of myungsoo's bed, myungsoo's cool hands on either side of his face. myungsoo never hurts him, never screams at him, never tells him to do anything he knows he cannot.

but it doesn't make anything right or easier.

"sungjong?"

sungjong blinks at myungsoo. his lips are tacky, and the lipgloss myungsoo has spread across them tastes like berries. the mascara is thick across his eyelashes, and it makes sungjong sleepy.

"can i kiss you?"

no, sungjong thinks but they've done this before and sometimes sungjong thinks he really likes it but other times he thinks he does only because it's a game. no, he thinks, because this is not what he has become an idol for, that this shouldn't be his role because it's myungsoo who should have been infinite's maknae.

but in the end, sungjong says yes. not because he has to, but because he can. because it's only a game, right?

i...hope you don't mind this, op. i might have gotten the prompt all wrong and if i did, i apologize!

this... this is so heartbreaking D: you definitely didn't shy away from dark haha. sungjong once said in an early interview his biggest fear was 'being alone'- and that's manifested itself so clearly here. the dynamic here feels like a giant 'what-if?' where the group never became so close friends, its members tending a little more towards abusive. i don't claim to know everything there is to know about infinite, nor have i watched all their shows, but ahh this makes me glad they're (for the most part) bros in rl D: D:

you kind of get the feeling nothing really changes: you could replace the beginning with the ending or vice versa and only the nuance would change. it kind of makes me want to shake sungjong and yell, sever, SEVER but then

;-;

it's definitely different - i.e. less kinky/consensual, more angsty - from what i had in mind, but then again that's the whole fun of anon memes. don't apologise! <3

...oh god the ending.

i'm so glad you didn't mind it! i was afraid it'd read too non-consensual and dark for your liking but it was a really good prompt because i could explore what infinite would be like to sungjong if everything was darker and a lot more twisted.

thank you for this prompt, anon - more sungjong-centric fics need to exist, and this definitely got me thinking :')

the pleasure's mine <3 and ditto on the lack of sungjong-centric fics! the maknae's so underappreciated D: he's definitely one of the nicest personality-wise, minus the teen rebellion thing he's got going on sometimes, even (especially?) outside the main focus of a camera. like when he was just chilling with hwayoung and watching out for her at the idol olympics- as an equal, not a 'protector'.

this was so tasty to read and the whole time i was salivating. i love how with sunggyu and woohyun, the bullying is almost vanilla in comparison to myungsoo not only doing things with/to him but... making him up, almost dressing him up and seasoning him for eating in the process o__o omg i love it!

this is amazing asfasgfasfgkj. from sunggyu and woohyun being so casual about it to myungsoo's version of it.... ugh, so sad and so beautifully written.
