joonmyun drums his fingertips against the table, carelessly humming away an old familiar song tucked at the back of his mind. into your world, he remembers among all the other songs they've been through together and he smiles, shaking his head as the thought of everything else falling apart in the small confinement of his mind.
"what went wrong?" is the question they all wanted answers from but joonmyun always smiles despite everything else, even after chanyeol's fuming face and the slamming of the door.
"it's not us," he assures, staring distantly outside the glass window. "we didn't fail. we succeeded."
"we're a big flop, joonmyun," wufan mutters and even the toughness he's built for the past five years falter. "that's why we're disbanding."
joonmyun shakes his head and stares at the members. four of them were already gone - chanyeol had walked out a few seconds ago, minseok couldn't stand the pressure in china, yixing decided to pursue a solo career and jongin, the person he loved the most, left them hanging three years ago when they started to realize they're not going to make it. "can't you see? maybe we all failed our dreams but it doesn't matter; we are all still together, isn't it? it means we didn't fail everything. we've made it out together."
kyungsoo looks at him with doubtful eyes, baekhyun's smile is already gone and zitao's tears already dried.
"right," luhan whispers, voice unaudible inside the small meeting room. his eyes dart across the room, the emptiness of the other chairs haunting him. "we're still one."
joonmyun reclines in his chair and starts whistling the old tune. sehun heaves a sigh next to him.
"that's okay," sehun flinches, palm finding luhan's by his side. "people don't have to remember us."
"we just have to remember us," jongdae chimes, a smile infecting everyone else.

this is really great in a heartbreaking way. i think i might have actually flinched at "jongin, the person he loved the most, left them hanging three years ago when they started to realize they're not going to make it" because ouch. i love the characterization of the other members- tao crying and sehun holding luhan's hands.
