Pure magic was at work, Yooyoung thought as she stared in awe at the Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid, who collects forks and sings on top of rocks, all big eyes and red waves for hair. That Little Mermaid was standing a few meters away from her. She looked so real, so genuinely from the sea. Yooyoung thought she could almost smell the salt on her skin.
When Ariel was only three feet away from her, looking down at some children pulling goodheartedly at her fintail, Yooyoung called out her name weakly, not really expecting to be heard over the crowd and the music. But Ariel looked up at her and held out a hand for her to shake. Yooyoung weakly complied. Ariel's hand was warm and wet with slight sweat, but Yooyoung just imagined it was ocean water.
When Ariel smiled at her, Yooyoung felt herself die a little bit inside. Her lips were a perfect shade of pink. Yooyoung watched as they moved in perfect unison with her words.
"Hi there! Wow, what I would do for a pair of legs like yours!" Ariel said, totally in character. She blinked, then realized what she had just said. She made an astonished face at herself then giggled shyly. Yooyoung had the urge to reach out and hug her, maybe even kiss her. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I don't mean it that way --"
And just like that, Prince Eric swept her off of her fins and put her on a platform. The distance made her just seem more statuesque, too hard to reach to really be alive. She radiated happiness at such great heights, her smile contagious and her charm diffusing through the air of the park. Yooyoung was jealous of the black-haired boy who got to be by her side throughout the whole day: what fun it must be to be him.
Yooyoung watched as Ariel danced to the background music, moving her arms in sync with her prince's. Yooyoung didn't notice that it was only some tiny kids milling around her ankles and herself still waving up at Princess Ariel excitedly, never stopping, waiting for their turn at the chance of recognition by royalty.
Ariel finally made eye contact with Yooyoung, her smile half apologetic and half amused, waving at her with both hands. And Yooyoung really knew -- she was absolutely positive! -- that Ariel was waving at her, shooting that lovely glance at her. Yooyoung felt her heart flip in her chest.
Wish I could be part of her world, Yooyoung singsang in her mind as she watched Ariel glowing gently in the sun, stealing away her heart piece by piece as time passed, probably to be a part of her collection of gadgets and gizmos a-plenty.
this is so beautiful, anon. it's been hours since i read this the first time and i still don't know how to express how much i enjoyed it and how much you exceeded my expectations with this lovely little fic. let me just quote all of my favorite bits at you:

you captured yooyoung's utter enchantment, her youthfulness. and yoonjo as ariel oh my god. i didn't have any specific princess in mind when i wrote this prompt and so i never even thought about the little mermaid but it's so perfect.
