round 06, challenge three: elimination comments
#01 - it's clear that the writer was uncomfortable with the word count. a lot of the phrases and dialogues seem meaningless, and the sentences are awkward and repetitive.
#04 - i think this had the potential to be quite cute but misses the mark because there's no cohesive thread throughout the piece. i understand that they're supposed to be ufo replies but everything is too disjointed, and the fact that you had 100 more words that you could've put to use to tie the story better together weakens your decision to keep it so short.
#04 - i'm assuming the author was going for humor which is a good idea but the execution was sub-par, resulting in the piece being awkward rather than charming.
#04 - it seemed a bit pointless. there were some parts that could've been amusing but they seemed sort of forced and the reader could only understand it if they were a big fan of nu'est. I wish there had been something more substantial. maybe something bts?
#04 - This read more like a series of one-liners or fandom jokes. Since I don't know much about NU'EST, I was hoping there would at least be an underlying conflict or storyline to hold my interest.
#04 - It's sloppy and boring and relies way too much on the format. A drabble needs more substance and more careful writing/wording.
#04 - as someone who knows nothing about Nu'est, i was completely lost. i felt like a lot was going over my head. i think i understand what you were going for: a collection of very short snippets of conversation meant to reveal something about the characters and their relationships... but it just didn't really work out. it was too unpredictable a reading experience.
#04 - It felt like the author was just checking off the words in the prompt, rather than creating a story incorporating those words. This drabble is probably cute for someone in the fandom, but it doesn't provide anything as a story. It was like one of those cracky facebook-status fics to be honest.
#04 - i like the idea of the format, but there's no story here.

#01 - This did a great job of showing and not telling - it was subtle, but not to the point of being cryptic.
#01 - I sort of like it more the more I think about it. The wording was awkward at times but it was still an interesting drabble, and it was the one that evoked most emotion in me.
#01 - great sense of atmosphere. dialogue is stilted in some spots, but the ending is subtle and powerful.
#02 - i really loved the language in this! i'm not sure the construction of the au quite works given the word constraint, but the writing flows well and i'm very intrigued by the premise and by myungsoo's situation, even though it's not quite clear what that situation is.
#02 - really nice take on the prompt. not only were the characterizations strong, but it had just the right amount of tension and uncertainty, and left off on a wonderfully tantalizing note.
#03 - i thought the prose was absolutely beautiful and the prompt was well-incorporated; there was a hint of each of the words woven into the drabble yet nothing seemed out of place or cliche
#03 - I thought this was a nice incorporation of the prompt without being cliche.
#03 - there are some phrases that seem to be there just to hit the word count. overall, though, the piece flows well, and i like the sentence variation.
#03 - I think this drabble did a good job of capturing the "drunk" word prompt in a different way, rather than the literal meaning. The descriptions were well-written and nicely set the dizzying atmosphere.

encantare has been eliminated for using an "extra" skip. suddenburst and subtleslide have used their last skip. birdsofamerica, supportingly, niyaowo, encodedinme, and trappedintaipei have used one skip for this challenge.
