Writer's Block: Cute Meet
First of all, I think how-we-met stories are so great to listen to! Unfortunately, I haven't heard that many that I can say I have a best one... Well, I guess, my own! I think how my boyfriend and I met is pretty extraordinary...
For a long time I thought being on YouTube with my singing was not my thing, but one day I decided to try it anyway. I made an account, recorded a song and posted it up. My very first video. I sang 안개 (Mist), BoA's version for the movie M. To my surprise, my very first video got linked to several Korean website and got quite a lot of views for a first video.
Somewhere around that time, as I learned, there was a 21-year-old Korean guy residing in London area browsing Korean message boards for news. He ended up on dc inside, a website he didn't visit often. And there it was: a thread that read something about a caucasian girl singing in Korean. He got curious and watched the video. While that girl on the screen was singing in Korean the best way she knew how at that time, he felt touched in his soul. He hesistated for a bit when he decided he needed to contact her. What would she think? Isn't it weird? A few clicks later he found her MySpace and sent her a friend request...
Early October 2007, I received a friends request from a random guy going by the name Solomon Kim. I don't know why, but somehow I knew I just had to accept the request even though I had no idea who he was or where he came from or why he added me. Not long after that, I received a message from him: a very formal and most cheesy message but nevertheless intriging. I wasn't the only one intriged as I learned. He wrote how he stumbled across me when he was on a vagabonding journey through the vast ocean of internet and introduced himself, after which the heart of the message came:
" I had a very rough day and was kinda depressed. Your voice sounded to me like it was healing my soul. So I decided to ask you if it's okay for me to get to know you better. "
I messaged him back that I was going through a very sad time because of the passing of my grandfather just the night before... Apart from that both of us, as it turned out, had been through quite a few hard and complicated things. After a few messages we ended up on msn after long talks on msn, phonecalls followed. At first, we still had our guards up and our hearts kept frozen, but it was not long until denial* was full of crocodiles and we fled it and our hearts melting. It was too obvious that we were deeply in love, that we were meant to be together. As God even acknowledged that and gave him promises about him and me we knew that we found that one person, soulmate, and eternal lover. On February 2nd 2008, we met in person for the first time which marks the start of our relationship.
Where there is God's Will in something, He makes it happen, one way or another. Solomon found me in such a way that if just one tiny detail of events went missing we wouldn't have found each other. Maybe if I uploaded the video one day later, that person who put it on dc inside might not have put it there. If the events of Solomon's day were any different, he might not have browsed the internet at that particular time and website... I could even just have ignored his friends request. When we look back, we know it was God's will...
He gave me my Korean name 서린. ' serene promise '... And how serene it is, how serene it will always be...
