18p vital stats
vital stats:
1. what should we call you? Jesse is my given name. J or Jet are my nicknames. I actually want to revive the nickname Jet (it was a college thing).

2. where in the world are you? where did you grow up? Currently I'm in Roanoke, VA. Born in Richmond, grew up in the 'noke, Bedford (little bitty piss-ant country place) for my adolescence. Moved back to Roanoke as an adult.

3. what do you do for work, or, what do you WANT to do? Wow...the distance between those two questions is staggering. I earn money as a courier/file clerk for a local college. My work is being a good boyfriend, updating our house, and writing & performing when I'm inspired. In the future, I want to get my advanced degree(s) so that I can be a psychologist. I want to work to end bullying and gender discrimination in schools and keep my feet in the world of social theatre.

4. who are the important people in your life? tell us about them. I have to laugh at this question a bit because it brings into sharp focus just what a good job I've done in creating a chosen family. There are lots of people to mention. First & foremost is my amazing girlfriend bella (your friendly neighborhood moderator). We live together with our two cats. There's JJ and The Divine Miss Em who bring so much goodness into my life. I have two best friends from childhood (we refer to ourselves as The Raging Queer Avengers). Friends from college that I talk to, exes that I talk to, a small collective of genderqueer & trans people that I run with. Oh! And my dad. It's been a long road but he's a pretty good egg most of the time.

VERY important random-ass questions:
5. have you ever returned an item to a store for a refund after having used it? No, but I did buy a Christmas present for someone once and had to return it 'cause I needed the cash more.

6. if you could bring one character to life from literature, who would it be? I thought long & hard about this but kept returning to Sherlock Holmes. Little known fact about me is that I love these stories. I read ALL of them as a teenager and would read them all again in a heartbeat. I don't know what it is. I just love that character. I'd totally be his PA or right-hand man just for the opportunity to match wits and watch his brain work. If I hadn't had such a great group of friends growing up, I totally could've become one of the Baker Street Irregulars and lived a fantasy life.

7. which color describes you most accurately? I have a color swatch that I found a long time ago. It's a certain kind of deep blue that is bold, vibrant, and soothing.

8. what one toiletry item could you never live without? Gawd...I'm such a stereotypical guy sometimes. There's not much I couldn't do without in this department. Ummm...soap I guess. There ARE certain body parts that just start to itch and hurt if they don't get washed w/ some regularity.

9. what do you think Victoria’s secret is? I have two. I think that there are video cameras in every store. At the company banquet every year, the footage of confused and frightened men is spliced together into a gag reel that is shown on a large screen for the amusement of the ladies that work there. Of course, my mug is known to sales associates all over the country thanks to this. Also, I think that Vicky got in on the ground floor of the Manhattan Project by sleeping with the lead scientist. She did this in order to steal the plans for the top-secret fibers they were creating and then used them for her lingerie. I mean really...Vicky's lingerie is capable of doing things that no other known fabric can.

and lastly:
10. what brings you here? Several things I guess. The first is to support my lovely bella and this community she's made. The second reason has its roots in the Raging Queer Avengers I mentioned earlier. Our little band of misfits was formed out of necessity more than anything. My part in it was that I have a very small family to begin with and those that are around me are very uncomfortable with any details about my real life. I have a financial and familial connection to these people, but they are not the ones that support me and nurture me. That makes me sad a lot of the time, especially when I remember that this was also true when I was just a wee one. So sometimes I need to mourn for what I never got as a child and I want to be able to do that in the company of people who get it.
